Just letting other Christians know how LOTRO treats Christian players. I posted John 14:6 in a chat channel and was banned for 3 days. Reason: Specifically, a Game Master determined that you used hate speech in chat within the game world.

Not to imply doubt, but do you have screenshots or transcripts of the banning? If not, the situation will come down to a "player's word vs. GM's word" scenario and Turbine will likely dismiss the issue.

Again, not casting doubt, but just wanted to emphasize the importance of evidence in these situations.

Also, welcome to the forums. :)

Was it with the reference? Often times I've gotten away with posting scripture as long as I don't post the reference.

I don't know how that particular verse could be used as hate speech... others definitely, but not that one.

dude.....

Maybe you should read what the bible has to say about how the world will treat us for Jesus' names sake. Then this would not be such a surprise, assuming it actually happened.

At the same time, I think it would be inaccurate to say that "LOTRO" banned you as much to say that you might have been reported for hate speech by some other player with a chip on his or her shoulder.

Again, without some sort of screenshot or log, it's very hard to make the call. What was the context?

Just a longshot guess, but assuming the ban actually took place because of the John 14:6 reference, I'm guessing it was on the grounds of religious segregation. Every religion claims that theirs is the only path, so that's not a shock to find it in Christianity, as well. But the fact that it can be used as an "us against them" sledgehammer can cause problems.

But it's all about the context in which it was used.

If the OP was banned for hate speech, somehow I honestly doubt it was for referencing John 14:6. I'm guessing it was something before or after that reference that caused the problem.

I'd have to agree with Durruck and some of the others here. Something before or after - or even the way it was used. Most gaming organizations are looking for users - not looking for reasons to ban them.

We are a Christian group and I've seen some people spamming a verse in chat. They may think it is cute or the Christian thing to do. Me? I find it annoying. I may even like the verse - but not pressed in my face and interrupting the game or chat I'm involved in.

I know nothing at all about jadonc - but it seems some part of the story is missing here. It has been almost a week and no response to any of the follow-up questions that have been asked.

After talking to my kin leader, I'm really thinking this is a troll attempt. There were similar postings in other forums, and even on facebook groups without any proof or follow-up.

Yes...and it's not like this is the first time this has happened here...we had one recently in the 360 chapter... :P
