I'd like to gauge the audience and see who is new to StarCraft, or strategy games in general, and think a basic guide with an introduction to StarCraft would benefit them. The guide wouldn't be very comprehensive, but would cover basic mechanics, races, and tips to being a better player. It will briefly explain how the multiplayer ladder works, economy and build, and just a few other things that might be of interest to a new player.

If you are interested in such a guide, please let me know and I'll work something up. Again, in order to be of most convenience to those players, the guide will be very simple, summarizing only concepts of the game-play.

Note: Poll results are not public.

I think this is a good idea, Teb ... but building on Corpfox's comment, yeah, there probably are a lot of such guides/resources out there to the extent that a) you'd be recreating the wheel(s) and b) it'd be tough to compete seeing as how, well, you like have a real job and stuff.

What I'd find useful is a summary of useful guides out there. A lot of guides tend to be so basic that they're 80% fluff (Bradygames and Primasoft stuff and Gamespot-type guides imo) ... or are so arcane and theorycraft that they don't make much sense to a newb. To the extent you RTS/SC experts can cull through it in your interwebz meandering and separate the wheat from the chaff ... that, I, think, would be fantastic.

With the recent influx of new StarCraft II beta users (courtesy of Gamestop and Blizzard's evil/brilliant collaboration), I think a "What's new in StarCraft II?" overview may be of tremendous help to those familiar with Brood War but not SC2.

I played a quick game with Elihu tonight (w00t!) and walked him through a few of the major differences between BW and SC2, but I'm sure there are 100 things I missed.

I'm basically thinking of people who haven't played RTS games before, since recently they haven't been very popular, and may not understand how the tier system works, and the basic economic structure of the game (minerals, gas, and workers). Honestly, the guide would be stuff most people could learn within a week to a month of playing casually, but is meant to give that information upfront to avoid frustration.

Aha, so your guide would be designed for RTS noobs.

I think it's a great idea. I might even volunteer my editing services if our members write enough content for the guide. :)

I still think a transitional (from Brood War to StarCraft II) guide would be handy, though--just as a separate project.

Man, I don't know what it is, but I have been playing really horribly lately. lol. I just haven't been in a competitive mood and just goof around in-game.

lol that's so weird lol. two mistakes in one post haha. ok so I don't remember where I was going with "for more experienced players" lol but if I remember I'll let you know.

And.. yea that link is wrong. I'll repost it.

Reposted. it comes up correct now.

Oh, I remember now. I was going to say that the more experienced players are welcome to provide a specific build order/tactic for newcomers to try out. I'd encourage a strategy that includes at least two tactics, such as fast-expanding and scouting, or rushing followed by a delayed rush, or fast-expanding and teching.. something along those lines.
