BC folks interacting with non-BC folks

A player asks this question to Blizzard "Will characters on accounts without BC updates be able to interact with characters with BC updates in the non BC zones?" and Nethaera responds with this answer:

Yes, you will be able to see them, trade with them, group with them in non-BC areas (if you don't have the expansion) and you will even be able to use items from the expansion provided it's brought into the main part of Azeroth and you are the right class or level to use them.

thinking back to what i've done in Beta, there hasn't been a ton of green drops. in fact, it seems that the drop rate has been a bit lower than live.

I've also noticed that the little bit of green drops that I've gotten have been fairly high level items. I'll have to log in and look, but when I got green drops, I think that they were the same level as the creature I killed to get them. In other words, no more killing a 60 and getting a L54 item.

Hm. i just went to log in and there's another patch. I'll check it later.

So, basically....there is really no reason to buy the expansion. You can get up to lvl 70, you can get the same items that drop if they are BoE (just head into your local AH since they are all linked), and you can even pick up Jewelcrafting I'm in IF/SW. The only thing you are not going to be able to do is go into Outlands and do the new instances. So, people are paying between $50 and $75 for the expansion for Outlands and 25 man content. Wow....talk about being horrible. Oh wait, you get to keep the box that the expansion comes in also. What a deal!

Based on one level 70 and almost 62, I can assure you, the expansion is more then just new instances. Outlands is where its at. It is chalked full of great quests and creatures. Outlands: quests / instances are worth the money for the experience alone but that is just my own two cents ... oh wait, more like $49.99 - close enough

Um, no Chris. Sorry you got all that from the post. Here are some links to let you know what you will and won't have access to with and without TBC. That post just let you know how you will be able to interact with folks that have the expansion if you don't; and how items that come from TBC will work for folks that don't have the expansion. I will get some blue posts for you on it when I can get the WoW boards to work for me.

Life without Burning Crusade

Joeh asks an interesting question over on livejournal... What are you going to be able to do if you don't buy the Burning Crusade expansion? There are probably at least a few people out there planning on not buying the expansion-- either for money or time reasons.

So, without the expansion, it looks like you're going to get a free respec, and of course all the talent changes on the trees-- but you'll still have only 51 points to spend, even though the trees will now go up to 61 points. And you'll still have access to all the content currently in the game-- you'll be able to play Strat, Scholo, ZG, AQ, and even Naxx until your heart's content. And even though you won't be able to play the new races, you'll still get to goggle at them as they run past you, sometimes on their very sweet epic mounts (although you won't see the flying ones, because those will only be in Outland, somewhere you can't go).

What else won't you get? You won't get to learn Jewelcrafting, although you will be able to use Jewelcrafted items and obtain drops. You won't see any of the new dungeons, and you won't be able to level a single XP past level 60.

And then there's some things we just don't know about. All players will be affected by the Honor System changes, but will Arena PVP be only for Burning Crusaders or will everyone get to play in them? And Blizzard hasn't said a single word about how the expansion will be implemented in-game-- will there be a World Event like the Scourge Invasion, and if so, will everyone see it, or only those who buy the expansion? Caverns of Time, we know, will be a world event in the "old" content of Tanaris-- can everyone participate in that or only those with BC?

And I know it boggles the mind, but what about post-expansion patches? Will Blizzard upgrade the entire game, or just the expansion folks? Lots of questions to be answered as we move closer and closer to BC's release date.

Umm, you're partially wrong there Reason. If you do not get the expansion you will not be able to level past 60. Nor will you be able to have any content that requires L61 or greater.

So you get the new profession and possibly some new recipes/patterns, but you are stuck having your skills capped at 300 and your level at 60. Not fun being stuck at 60 and everyone playing in the Outlands I would think.

man, a day late and a dollar short. thought i was after allanon :)

Also reading Tinies post, we have now learned you can participate in Arena PvP but you will get nothing for it till you reach L70 which you won't if you don't get the Xpac. Also it does appear you will get to learn Jewelcrafting since they have set the people up in the current cities.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up you two. I was really starting to get angry that I spent money for the Collector's Edition for almost no reason at all.

Thanks. :)

THey set up a jewelcrafting trainer in IF/SW/Da? In the beta, nobody could find them. Maybe they've changed it in the past few weeks.

When you go up to a guard in SW/IF and interact with them, one of the options is Jewelcrafting. That is why I was under the assumption that non-BC buyers could learn Jewelcrafting.
