Best pet types for PvP?

For all you PvP Hunters out there, what would you say is the best type of pet for PvP? I've grown quite fond of my Wind Serpent, but my recently acquired Ridge Stalker Patriarch and its Prowl 2 ability would likely serve me well in the battlegrounds.

Boars, or ZG bat/Brokentooth.

Boars because of the charge they do which immobalizes the target for 1 second and adds massive attack power to the boards next attack (crits for 350+ on a bite). The 1 second immobalize just give a nice option to get further away from the target.

ZG bat/Brokentooth because these pets have the fastest attack speed in the game 1.0 seconds. What does that mean? It means that when casters do a casting spell it will take them longer; a 3 sec fireball becomes 4.5 seconds with the interruption the bat/BT causes. Channeled spells will also be shorter.

Unfortunately, the next boar available is level 48. Once I hit 48, I'll travel to the Blasted Lands to tame an Ashmane Boar.

The ZG bat will be a great choice when I hit level 60, but not before then. I plan to return to PvP at level 48 and stay in the battlegrounds a while.

I'll need to head to the Badlands to camp Broken Tooth's spawn. I hope it isn't as troublesome as camping for Humar.

By the bye, can Broken Tooth learn Prowl 2 from my Ridge Stalker Patriarch?

What about the Wind Serpent's Dive ability, and the Cat's Prowl ability? How useful are those in PvP?

You want to have low lvl pets for pvp since they're dps gets higher as they lvl. (i.e. a lvl 10 boar at lvl 60 will have more dps than a lvl 60 boar). You can teach cats prowl, dash, cower, claw(I think). I tried to get broken tooth but he only spawns once every 8 hours and I've never been able to find him except once. A pet trainer can help you unlearn your pets talents so you can choose how to spend the points again.

I didn't like prowl much in pvp cause the pet moves so slow even with dash on that most times people killed me before my pet even did any dmg to them. Only time it would be useful is when you want to scout a base to see how many people are there. I use track humanoids to see how many unstealthed people are there and then just charge in. In AB eagle eye is useful to scout the nodes.

In the end it's all about which pet you prefer, theres all kinds of different pets I see in bgs. Being a hunter is all about pets.

Hm, I've read the same factoid elsewhere, but I don't know if I have the patience to level a level 10 pet to 42 or higher.

Aye, that makes sense.

I might end up with a Boar, Gorilla, and Wind Serpent in my stables at level 48. I've found that I really like the Vale Screecher I tamed in Feralas, and I'd have a hard time letting it go.

Pet lvling takes long, that is why most people tend to keep atleast 1 pet from the very start and have two tamed at 60 for different purposes.

Heh, I ran out to Blasted Lands last night on a whim and found him near Angor Fortress. I had to sacrifice my Vale Screecher (with level 6 loyalty), but I tamed Broken Tooth and now have him stabled. w00t!

On a side note, I did tame a new Vale Screecher.

I found that wind serpents makes the worst pets They look pretty, I even had a son of hakkar tamed once with my brother. Both of us kept them for about 2 days before we realized it was not that great for pvp or pve, but only cool for looks since it changes colours so often. The lightening breath takes 50 focus, dive takes about 25-30. In pvp I have dive/dash and bite on all the time. In the end the skill pet's unique skill wasnt being used much either in pvp or pve.

Really? I've found that the Vale Screecher is one of the few pets that can hold aggro when I'm fighting mobs. I haven't taken it into PvP yet, but it's great for PvE, in my experience. It hits hard, it crits fairly often, and it has a decent amount of HP and armor.

I know the numbers would probably speak against me, but I've really enjoyed using the Vale Screecher. /shrug

Hm.. I can only think of one reason why your screecher is holding agro better, is cause the other pets you had used abilities that were instant and used up most of the pets focus so it could not use growl a lot. Pet dps doesn't play a huge factor into holding agro, its the amount of growl it does that matters. If your pet does only 1 growl and no more you can expect to pull agro off your pet. Try with another pet of the same lvl as you, except only have growl on and everything else off, I'm sure you'll notice that it'll hold agro just as good.

Do a count on how many lightening breaths vs bites with having growl/breath on in one fight, and growl/bite on in another against the same lvl mob with your screecher. Pretty sure growl/bite combo > growl/breath for dps.

Edit: Also your pet has to have the max lvl of growl it can learn, since it doesnt cost any training points it easy to upgrade. A pet trainer teaches you the various ranks of growl and other things. Growl is like a sunder, it generates hate, growl isn't a taunt contrary to what many people think.
