Best pets for instances?

What pets are best for instances?

I'm thinking of taking my Vale Screecher and my Elder Mistvale Gorilla into Uldaman soon, but I also have my eye on the Southern Sand Crawler. It seems that turtles would also make good instance pets.

Probably the best pet would be none. It does not take much for them to take off and pull unwanted groups. Hunters are strongly encouraged to keep their pets put away until they are needed, such as on a specific boss fight.

One example of a pet getting away on its owner was in a recent scholo run. The hunter had his pet on defensive, but we walked into a room in which there was an AoE hitting everybody. That pet, because it took damage, took off and pulled long before anybody knew what happen. It ended up being a wipe.

Yeah hunter pets are usually big no-noes in instances. Trust me....run away pet wipe grouips soooo easy....I know...mine do it too.

Heh, for the reasons mentioned above use a wolf on passive and always have it by your side. Whenever you cast aimed shot, you can use the furious howl of the the wolf to add dmg to your aimed shot.

Would you say that that holds true for all instances, or just higher-level instances?

I always put my pet on passive when I enter an instance. If I have a Gorilla with me, I turn off Thunderstomp. I usually don't pull with my pet, but rather with an Aimed Shot.

Usually the biggest problem I run into is a caster casting Fear on my pet, which can result in a wipe. If I can dodge Fear, then I rarely, if ever, have any problems with a pet running away.

Still, if it's for the benefit of the group, I'll shelf my pet. It's not as fun to play without a pet, but it's better that than wiping and causing four other people to wipe. :(

Aha, that makes sense. I had thought that Furious Howl only increased melee damage. I'll likely fly back to Feralas and re-acquire a Longtooth Runner now.

Pretty much, even now in a pug people will tell me to put pet away. Once you play long enough without a pet you get used to not having a pet. half the time I forget to send the pet to attack even when I'm pvping.

Use a serpent/scorpid sting, aimed shot = hate if you crit, even worse dead if FD gets resisted. Also you pet should always be on passive even in the outside world. Passive = FD+trap 90% or the time, if your pet is in combat you cannot lay a trap down.

Dont you remember that PUG SM group we were in???

Best Hunter's pet for an instance = no pet.

Best Warlock's pet for instances = Imp on passive :)

The problem with hunters pets Tek is not you. Its all the bad hunters that came before you. Sadly, 95% of the hunter population do not know how to control their pet properly in instances, which means the 5% that do are the ones hurting for it. And I don't think this is what Blizzard had in mind when they designed the hunter\pet combo. And this doesn't just apply to hunters, warlock pets go bonkers too. Pets add a random factor into the mix that most people just do not wish to deal with.

I tried to burn that memory out of my mind, thank you. -_- That was the reason I didn't run another pug for two weeks. Even though the next PuG I played in went very smoothly, I still hesitate to run PuGs today.
