BlazBlue

Alright. Soooooo... I picked up BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger when Keero-san said he would be picking it up again soon. I had it previously (on 360) and meant to get it again, but it got lost in the shuffle. Whatever the case, I had the money, and it seemed like a good time to get it. So I did.

I love it way more this time than last. For what it's worth, I still favor Guilty Gear, but they really are different games. Really enjoying Noel right now.

Anyway, I'm guessing most of you already know about the game, but I wanted to give it a push. It's crazy, over the top, extremely polished, and a whole lot of fun. The limited cast is kind of sad (I'm spoiled by Super Street Fighter IV's 35 characters, I guess), but a ton of work was put into them. The polish shows in that the characters have specialized dialog... used in fights (most games only have it somethetimes before a fight begins)... depending on matchups.

Lost my train of thought.

Anyway. Definitely recommended (caveat: profanity aplenty in the story mode and immodest apparel on some characters), but I'd be inclined to say it's worth the added cost to buy this year's version, Continuum Shift, instead. Added characters are a bonus. At least one ohe game's DLC characters, though you have to pay for them (rage), looks awesome (Valkenhayn). Added game modes, though, bringing back scenario mode from Guilty, is a definite plus. A tutorial mode (not sure how good it is, though) is an even bigger deal. Also, probably more people playing it than Calamity Trigger (though I've been able to find matches with relative ease still).

...yeah and stuff. /nod

Bwah? Why didn't you buy Continuum Shift?

By the way, BlazBlue: CS is on my "future purchase" list, but it may be a while until I work my way down that far. (Yakuza 3 jumped a few spots after I played the demo and the included karaoke minigame. Any game with fistfights and enka must be awesome.)

Oh, and how does BB:CS play on a regular controller? I'd love to get a PS3 arcade stick (especially after getting thrashed by Seth in SSFIV on medium difficulty, ouch), but, as is the way of the unemployed, money is tight.

I actually prefer it on a controller over a stick. Felt weird without the PS3 controller. xD

That's because you're weird. :P

I play on an old fighting game pad (from the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection line). I've played on the stock controller, too. I'd say that it's one of the more playable fighting games on pads, but playing on a stick is still preferable for me.

I got Calamity Trigger cuz I wasn't planning on taking the game seriously and it was half the price of Continuum Shift. Now that the game is clicking, I gotta have both. (For what it's worth, I also own multiple versions, even multiple copies of the same versions, of Guilty Gear. It's just the way it goes for me.)

Also, Seth is a total jerk in SSFIV when played by the AI.

Ah, that makes sense. I figured that cost may have been a factor after noticing Calamity Trigger sells for around $18 used at brick and mortar stores and I've yet to see Continuum Shift sell for less than $34.

So very, very true.

I usually try to buy new when the price difference is reasonable, but, admittedly, I bought this used. $13/shipped thanks to Amazon and Prime for Students, so I found that within my tolerable expenditures threshold.

Game is so good, though.

Even better on the Tekken 6 wireless stick that finally got here today.

Seriously... Continuum Shift is high on my priority list. Valkenhayn, though additional DLC costs apply, is siiiiiiick. Problem? Seems a bit of tweaking of characters have taken place between the two versions of the game.

Guess I'm putting my favorite, Noel Vermillion, on the back burner until I get the new game. Don't wanna have to unlearn things.

But yeah. Game is good.
