LOS ANGELES, Calif. – July 22, 2009 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. and Legendary Pictures announced today that Sam Raimi has signed on to direct the eagerly-anticipated major motion picture based on Blizzard Entertainment’s award-winning Warcraft® universe. Raimi has, in the course of his career, clearly demonstrated a genius for developing and adapting existing fictional universes for mainstream audiences while staying true to the spirit of the original content.

A movie based on World of Warcraft? Why, the jokes almost tell themselves.

Funny thing though...so many people are all like "We never saw this coming" and "Whoa, they really surprised us with that" but actually they said they were planning a live action movie at last years Blizzcon...

Other thoughts though...I think it could be a good movie...I always really liked the Warcraft Lore...and remember it is going to be a Warcraft Movie, not World of Warcraft movie...

Have you ever seen a live action video game movie before?

Two things give me hope:
1. It's not Uwe.
2. Blizzard has a ton of money and have shed blood sweat and tears for years on their beloved franchise. The last thing they'd want is a terrible movie.

Do we have to grind mobs for tickets? I bet we have to wait in a queue to see it. xD

I just wanna see who Bruce Campbell plays.

1. Plenty of horrible game movies not made by that idiot.
2. Blizzard may have no control of which direction it takes. And even if they do, it still doesn't mean it will be any good.

One of the things that continually turns me off from mmorpgs is the lore. It's never simple or character based and learning it ends up feeling like a chore if I actually want to know what is going on in the game :( (I've read some of the WoW lore in the past too). A movie based on it does not appeal to me for that reason. If you want to be technical most mmorpgs are heavily influenced by Lord of the Rings so It's kind of been done right already anyway.

I'd imagine Blizzard is like every other company that will cash in whenever possible (there is that questionable Starcraft II expansion pack thing). That's not to say it will be bad just that making a buck will probably be Blizzards priority number one not being "good". Hey whatever it is it could not possibly be as bad as this (warning link goes to youtube, cussy comments disclaimer, video safe though)

Well...I don understand why people play WoW without playing the other Warcraft games...I know probably 90% of their current player base didn't, but that makes no sense to me... If you play the first 3 Warcraft games (which are very good games) you will know most of the Lore...

You will require

  • Level 14 to enter the movie theater raid instance
  • Have a minimum DPS of 3 (Drinks per show)
  • And be prepared to raid with a bunch of kids who don't respect the raid leaders
  • Some tall person will sit in front of you stealing your screen space
  • I hear you have to be keyed to enter the instance. And the key will cost 10 to 12 dollars per person.
  • There will be a queue system put into place but some movie theater raid instance servers will have different size queues and demand
  • Some bonehead will be late to raid, spot the only empty spot in the raid beside you and spill their mana potion on trying to get to it.
  • I hear all the loot drops are purely intrinsic in value. But some will not appreciate this. And to some it is really not that much of an upgrade.
  • I suspect some will farm the instance daily and weekly.
  • Others will wait until the Home PUG DVD version is available.

LOLs, the noon newscast just did a segment on this. LOLs

It goes give me hope however. And Blizz does have a bunch to say in the matter as one of their members is Co-Producer.

The post above is epic.

Because 90% of players pay no attention to the text for quests?

I enjoyed the Warcraft lore, but admit to skipping quest text more often than not because most quests were a "Kill X number of creature Y to earn quest item Z" formula grind that I just wanted to get done and over with. The gameplay was focused too heavily on the destination rather than the journey (a grievance perhaps better posted in the What comes next for MMORPGs? thread).

But I digress. Keero and Odale already told the jokes I was thinking of, though using different words.

This post is made of awesome.

New faction will be introduced: The vendors.

Generally, the vendor faction is very friendly to Movie Theater Raiders. But don't be fooled. Members of this new faction will sell the required key to enter the instance and a wide assortment of confectionary you will use during your stay in the instance. Raiders, who will be known as guests, will soon find out that the vendor faction is only interested in turning a profit at their expense with over priced raiding items. The key to enter the instance is only temporary and a new one will be required for a future visit. No amount of faction grinding will cause your costs to decrease with the vendor faction. As a matter of fact, you may find your costs going up over time at an unreasonable rate. While you do not need to purchase their items to be successful in the raids, it will make them easier and more enjoyable. The vendors are a highly jealous faction. They will not allow you to bring any mats that you farm outside the instance to enhance your enjoyment of the instance. Doing so may result, if caught by the vendors, in you being tossed from the instance and be faced with a temporary lockout from the instance, with no refund of the instance key. So travelers and adventurers, be wary of using outside mana and health potions and conjured popped corn. Watch for vendor coupons that will occasionally drop around the world of Azeroth to get you special prices from the Movie house vendors such as two for one potions usable in the instance and 2 for 1 keys.
