Changing secondary profession

Hey guys, it's been good seeing some of you on while gaming. I need your help again. I was just looking into the possibility of being able to change my secondary profession. I really like the idea of using templates to quickly change my character's build.

Nightfall seems to offer the easiest way to do so, but can I access a profession changer coming from another campaign? Most people seem to mention the command outpost, but I don't have access to it. Thanks.

You need to have ascended in Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall. Once that is done you can switch secondaries where ever there is a profession changer. What campaign is your character from?

Thanks for the help. I started in Prophecies, but as I was researching online it looks like I could do it in Factions as well. I just hate the mission "Closer to the Stars". I was hoping that maybe there was a quicker way to get there that would allow me to finish that mission some other time. I'm so sick of it.

Nightfall sounds so much more accessible in terms of secondary professions and the ability to switch. I learn something new every day.

If I remember correctly, since you were "born" in Prophecies you have to ascend there before you can change secondaries.

I suggest using EotN skills. Along with Echo, Arcane Echo, or having a pet on you if you currently have access to any Ranger or Mesmer skills. If you do have the echo skills use it on the EotN skill that lets you summon an assassin. You will be fine so long as you don't really bring any skills the Doppelgänger can copy.

How close are you to the Crystal Desert?

I'm sure there are some people around who can help you through those missions so you can face your Doppelganger. You have to do that alone.

Thanks for all the info and help. Actually, I finally sucked it up and decided to just slowly work my through "Closer to the Stars" by taking out all of the enemies and then going back for the celestials. It took forever, but it worked. That did it. It unlocked the Profession Changer NPC I needed. This really opens the game up. Thanks.

Great - yeah - changing your secondary really changes the options you have.

Would you recommend just unlocking the skills through the online store or are there enough side quests to unlock a significant number of skills for secondary professions in game?

I should clarify. The Doppelgänger can't use Title Track Skills (which the first ones for me were EotN so I'm in a bad habit of referring to them as the same thing) and I think we can only have 3 of those in our skill bar at once. So you would go into fighting the Doppelgänger with only 3 skills plus the specific Me or R skills as mentioned before.

If you are not already one of those profs. Just bring the Title Track Skills and nothing else. A Vampiric weapon would be pretty helpful too.

About the online store; I don't know if the skill unlocks actually unlocks Title Track Skills. Or for that matter make them immediately available for your playable character but will for your heroes. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never bought them before)

I bring these skills if my secondary or primary is not already Mesmer or Ranger...

"You Move Like a Dwarf!"
"Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support"
"Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support"

If you have spent some time in Polymock the "Summon Ruby Djinn" is pretty nice.

Thanks for the tips. I actually haven't gotten all that far yet. I got so distracted in Cantha leveling up and trying to get secondary professions unlocked. I just got to the jungle in Prophecies and am breezing through it now that I changed to a combo of Ranger / Mesmer. I am much more efficient and deadly attacking now.

I'll check out EotN as soon as I get a little extra cash. :D

Actually I believe it's that if you weren't born in Nightfall you can't ascend there, I think Prophecies characters can change professions even if they're only Weh No Su.

Oh, that explains what wiki said.

Yeah, that seems to be how it works. I started in Prophecies, but then traveled to Cantha. After completing the "Closer to the Stars" quest (my least favorite thus far) I became Weh No Su and the profession changer NPC appears in the next outpost. Everything just seems to happen a lot faster in Factions.

I think that is the truth, not just "seems like." Once you can change your secondary and bring along heroes the whole game becomes more alive.

Totally agree. It was a great game before, but being able to change professions makes it absolutely amazing. The possibilities it offers are just endless. The depth of gameplay and strategy is increased exponentially, something I really appreciate. Although, skills have suddenly become much more expensive.

Don't just wait for the skills to come along. Look online or get builds from other GW people r - then go after those skills. Capping specific skills is fun, too.

Thanks. I've been doing some research on builds. It has definitely helped me to focus on what I need.

Abba, could you explain "capping"?
