Changing secondary profession

Short for "capturing." You can buy a skill called "Signet of Capture" from the various skill trainers. Put that on your skill bar. When you have defeated a boss you stand near the corpse and use the Capture Signet - his skills will show up in a list and you can capture that skill for yourself. Only skills from your primary and secondary profession will show up.

Since regular skills can be purchased - limit using your Signet of Captures to the elite skills. These elite skills make a huge difference in your build potentials. Here is the Signet of Capture article in Guild Wars Wiki.

Abba, what can I say? Once again, thanks. Capping is something that I have heard/seen a lot but hadn't understood. Guess I should probably take a closer look at the thread on terminology here in the forum.

I've had the signet of capture for a while now, but I have been really hesitant to use it until I know exactly what I'm going after. I don't want to waste it on a skill that isn't elite. So, most bosses will generally give an elite skill?

Generally, they do. I think that early on in each of the campaigns you may come across a boss that does not have an elite skill - but for the most part, yes.

You don't have to worry too much about wasting a Signet of Capture. If you activate one - you can look at the skills offered and you have the option of cancelling and doing nothing and retaining the Signet.

Also, you can buy additional Signets - I believe they cost 1,000g and a skill point. Sounds like a lot to pay when you are first getting started - but further on in the game you'll have the resources to do that.

Finally, if you pick up an elite skill you don't end up using you have not wasted a Signet - all the elites end up going toward the Skill Hunter Title.

May I please make a note here? The capture signet is of course listed as a skill, so if you have not purchased many skills it may be less than 1,000 g to start. You probably have noticed the cost on skills starts low and works it's way up to 1,000g and is capped at that level. So if you have not purchased many skills you can get a signet of capture for less than 1000g. I limit myself on skills with my 'toons for just this reason. The Elites are more important to me, and using others builds allows that luxury. Also tomes are a good way to build a skill base, in can be much cheaper than buying skills for 1000g a pop. Watch the prices on the tomes that apply to your ,toon.

Mine have been 1,000g for so long I forgot that they were once cheaper. Good point.

Abba, that was going to be my next question. Good to know.

Ursen, I've been watching the price of skills steadily increase ever since unlocking the other secondaries. I was hoping that the price level would be capped at some point. That's really helpful to know and makes me feel a lot better. With the drops that I'm starting to get from enemies I can make a 1,000g fairly quickly.
