Genesis1315

Ladies
I have watched Christians use less offensive words to express their feels, words that could be substituted for profane words. I have watch Christians post links that contain material that is questionable and / or potientially highly offensive. I have seen Christians justify what they do in hopes of not having to change something they like.

So, being that one is a Christian, how can this go on? Jesus spoke of the thoughts behind an action. Why would a Christian enjoy a website that has profanity on it (repeated visits)? Why would a Christian continue to use words that are known to replace profane words? What does all of this say about the condition of ones heart? What kind of testimony is being provided?

I am not trying to come down on any one person, but I have frequently seen these things and would like to know what is the motivation behind it.

I'm not christian, but to m their just words. I don't curse on the server because thats the rulez, but lot of the words that are banned I use all the time when my parents are around and their fine.

I think everyone is coming from different backrounds and enviorments, and even though you are all christians, you all have very different idea and beliefs in some areas. It could be because everyone interprets the bible differently, thats y there's so many different kinds of christians I suppose.

I think a large part of it is because we have different feelings on different things that we do in life. To you, one thing might be wrong, and to me, its not so bad.

People who use profanity don't bother me. I do not do it myself (except on occasion) but does that make me any less of a Christian? But what is the difference between using one of the naughty words to express their displeasure or excitement (depending on the case) and using words like "wow" or "g-wiz" or "great jehosephat" to express it? Is the thought behind the action any different? What do you do when your potty training your child and talk about them going to the bathroom? You use those same words, is the the context that is unacceptable?

For all we know tha person is trying to change their behavior and stop using profanity and using another word to express thier excitement might be a start. While we are supposed to hold each other accountable, I don't think we should be condemning of them and question their faith or salvation. Not everyone is at the same place in their walk with Christ but through encouragement and council should they grow more.

But of course some people are Christian in name only and never intend to change thier actions or behaviors. God will deal with them accordingly in His time and if they are repeat violators of ToJ or CGA rules, they can and will be removed.

Just my thoughts,

Cory

Romans 7:21-25
"So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God–through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

I think Paul sums it up pretty well.  I don't know about you, but I have a daily struggle to pick up my cross and carry it.  To surrender our lives to Christ is not the easiest most natural thing for us to do.

Every Christian has areas of weakness that they battle.  Some may seem worse to us than others...pornography verses lying, adultery versus pride etc.  In God's eyes they are all equal, as hard as that is for us to believe.  Our Christian witness and our fellowship with God are destroyed each time we choose to sin (until repentance), yes, but our eternal destination will remain the same.  Thank goodness that God's mercy and grace are new every day!  Jesus said, "Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35
That's what we should be concentrating on because in the end we all fail to live up to what a Christian witness should be.  Like Paul said, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God–through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

My thoughts,

There are two reasons.

1. I am concerned that my brothers and sisters are dancing with things that can cause them to fall.

2. I am confused why a Christian would want to send conflicting messages.

Please understand that I am not trying to condem anyone, it is an issue that has been weighing on my heart for a while and I would like to understand better.

Would you judge Christian Behaviour by how they look like? Or by what they are?

Lets say, umm...me, was a punk purpled hair, tattooed, body pierced guy, and I would be a Christian, you gonna judge me for being a punk, or for being a Christian?

"...outer beauty is better than inner beauty."

Corp..there is no judgement in any of gen's statement's. Do not read something into them that is not there.

I asked a question, none of my questions referred to anyones answer/statements/bible verses, its my question, no one elses!

Mine is not an issue of appearance, but concern and curiosity over behaviour.

There, a good answer on my question!

Gen says its not on appearance, but I'm worried about the others...

Hmm... well i say 'aw fudge.' sometimes. I don't say it in a bad tone. There is a difference in HOW you say it and if it is textually bad... i just got bak from school... time to eat! :o fudge brownies! :o

i'll talk more later. i'm hungry.

It's funny how people tend to zero in on part of a question or series of questions to the exclusion of the rest. Hopefully in this case it means that these people who responded are not posting links to questionable sites :)

I understand where you are coming from Gen. I fight the use of substitute words battle all the time with my middle school students at school.

To give the best answer I can to your questions...it probably has to do with maturity in ones Christian walk.

Some of the people reading this forum have probably never even thought of the problems with substituting words or posting to sites with material that they shouldn't have been reading in the first place.

Maybe your thread will help get one or two of them thinking.

After reading what I wrote it may sound a little condesending to some of you...it is not ment in that way. I have my own issues that I am working on. As brothers and sisters in Christ we all need to help eachother grow and keep eachother accountable.

P.S. I am a noob to this...this is the first time I have ever posted on a forum

Welcome to the forums.

We all do have areas where we need to change our behaviors.

Just to throw this out, for example, when someone is playing a game and uses darn instead of another word, are you really thinking about mending socks (which is what darning is) or are you thinking of the other word that is not allow (at least on ToJ CS servers)

We all come from different backrounds, alot of the words that u think are wrong to say I've used everyday since I was a kid. Some of the words I can't use at home because my parents will kick me out. But then I could watch a movie or listen to music infront of them with the same words that I'm not allowed to say and thats fine.
Theer are alot of words that can be taken as substitutes for curse words on the server

<edited for content> (The word list was not really needed)

The list can go on, we have slang words for everything. I thought I knew most of it, but I've been listening to a british artist and I'm learning and looking up new ones all the time. Got to love those british.

There are many words out there that were used by children on a regular basis that are now, not socially acceptable words.

So, based on what you said, you are saying the replacement words because you cannot say anything else. Bottom line - the profane words are the underlying meaning behind the words.

sure, but I don't see profanity as being all that bad.

There are also alot of words that wern't socially acceptable before, and are acceptable now.

So whats to say that words we find are curse words now are going to be curse words in the future.
If I say I bite my thumb at u are u going to get upset with me.

Mechboy,

The difference is the thread is talking about Christian Behavior. You, not being a Christian do not hold or adhere to these same values. The exact opposite can be stated about words. There are words that are not acceptable to be used now, that used to be. Christian morality should be based upon the teachings of Christ in the Bible, not what is socially acceptable to do. While it is a hard road to walk and takes time to grow, it is something that should be strived for.
