I start college tomorrow. I have a long commute and I have been known to possess a dislike of driving that borders on phobic. Then after I have class all morning, I have a dentist appointment. And after my dentist appointment, I have to go back to college because they're making me go to a social dinner thing that all the other freshmen National Merit Finalists have to attend. That means I have to talk to people. I have been known to possess so little skill at small talk that people think I'm mean, but they also get rather freaked out when I try to bring up an interesting topic. Saying, "So, have you ever read any David Hume?" doesn't really segue too well coming straight from talking about last week's rainfall.

Your prayers are appreciated!

I'll pray for you. But some interesting things you can talk about are;

Your metal arm (if you have one)
meat
cheese
soap
Barney
the number 2
the number 67
the word set (which has over 200 different defentions in the dictionary)

(these things will make you seem smarter to people in general wither that or scare them away so they will leave you alone)

LOL I'll be praying but I bet I can give you at least two topics..... hmmm Jesus but then religion is one of those funny things to talk about cause people get antsy etc.... but I bet you could tell them all about CGA and what we're about and the gaming and fun and etc. Just a thought............... btw talk about whatever feels comfortable and let God be your guild. Blessings,"Angel"

Update: First day was extraordinarily tiring but I didn't screw anything up. Classes went fine, except that I was scheduled into the wrong level of math, but I fixed it afterwards. By arriving five minutes late to the mandatory social function (only partly on accident, I must confess ;) ), I managed to weasel out of any preliminary small talking as everyone was already conversing with someone else. :) Also it was not an entire hour of socializing as I had feared, and after about 10 minutes an official-type person started talking about stuff. So it was OK. Now I just have to deal with the workload, which, it appears, boggles all freshmen, and not just me, which is both reassuring and depressing all at once. I'll make it, though. Thanks for your prayers, all, I really think they made a difference.
