Computer Issue

A buddy IM'd me from his phone with a computer issue.

He's running Windows XP. When he starts up his machine, it starts up a disk check. However, his keyboard is unresponsive when he tries to skip the check. So the system follows through with the check... nothing wrong. Except when it's done, the machine restarts, and it repeats the cycle.

Please reply with any questions or suggestions to help him out, and I'll relay them to him as they are posted. Thanks! =)

safe mode.

I know several of the el cheapo dell laptops at my old school would have wonderful issues with booting windows. Essentially they would boot, blue screen and repeat...

He may want to boot using a system disk and run the utilities within.

hmm, that is pretty bad. He will need to do a repair on the installation and possibly have to mount it with a livecd and copy files over.

When windows blows up I just reinstall, it's not worth my time fixing. Of course all my data is decentralized unlike many people :\
