Hey All,
I had a question about a pc. I am looking into buying one possibly but I can only spend about 500$ if I am lucky. Where should I go to look? Would I be better off building my own (I can do that, just havent done it in a while)? What should I be on the watch for as far as bad deals? Thanks!

socket 754 stuff or 939 stuff off newegg.com

Or with the Christmas deals you can probably get into a good Core 2 based system, just keep the extra accessories simple. HP has some good deals on AMD64 and Pentium 4 based systems, and if you are patient, you can usually get an upgrade on the RAM or hard drive for free. There's an a1620y for $499 with a 3Ghz P4, 1GB of RAM, and a free 17" LCD monitor upgrade.

Just remember to find out with a prebuilt if there is expansion room. A lot of Dell Dimension's don't have PCI-E or AGP slots on the motherboard, and usually no room for additional RAM. Some of the HPs have the same issue, but I think they changed that on the current generation.
