Cults? What are they?

Wow this might turn in to a flame war, who's got the nachoes? I feel that every religion is important as eachother, no matter how small, laughable, weird or sadistic, there is no cult in my book.

I answered this in the lates post in What is a True Christian.

Actually you didn't.

My post was concerned with respect and your use of a deragatory term to describe those that don't subscribe to your particular views.

Would you mind addressing this please?

Cult isn't derogatory - we just defined it's position as subjective so that when you use it you're saying more about your own frame of reference than you are about the object it is applied to.

Gentlemen (and Ladies if applicable) please keep an eye on your posts and remember that then tone you are intending may not be brought out when read by others.

That's a nice way of avoiding the point.

If no one is willing to divide up that group, then I will take that to mean that you consider them ALL Christian.

DV - Do you have a quickguide that can be used to provide additional information. I will admit, some of them are new to me, and some I am surprised to see listed. (since this is in the definition of a cult thread)

I do think though that HCS's point is pretty valid. Yes, we all have some diffenence, but a Christian is a Christian.

The denom itself may be misled or even unbiblical..but that does not mean the PEOPLE in the denom aren't Christians.

But how can you be a "true" Christian when you are part of a misled or unbliblical denomination?

I understand that being part of a denomination in and of itself can't make you Christian. That wasn't my question.

My question was how one could be a "true" Christian while a part of a misled or unbiblical denomination.

If, as you claim, you CAN be a "true" Christian in ANY denomination, then why point fingers and claim entire denominations as misled or unbiblical if it doesn't matter?
