Cursing and PUGs

Ok, this discussion is getting off topic. It is for how we handle cursing when amongst a PUG as related in post 1.

A debate on the pro/cons on Christians spouting off profane or obscene language can be taken to RD.

For the purposes of this discussion we'll leave the theological/socialogical argument aside and go with ToJ's official stance: cursing is bad, and ToJ members shall not do it.

swearing and cursing is given way to much attention. a statement like above is proof. frankly, imo, it is rather low on the list.
There is no list archangel - sin is all on 1 line. Sin is doing what is wrong or not doing what is right according to God (Colossians 3:8, Ephesians 4:29).

wishanem - If the Holy Spirit doesn't convict you for using foul language, yes I will question your Christianity (Matthew 7:18-20).
I feel no need to conform to the hypocritical lifestyle so many of my fellow saints have embraced.
I hope you're not saying that just because a Christian believes that using foul language is a sin, that he is a hypocrite ... if you're not saying this, I have no clue why you even put that in your post.

Words are not just words, the Bible says that "Life and Death are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 8:21). So don't just view any word, especially foul language, just as a "word" - so harmless.

Turn your back, abandon the internet, and build yourself a nice safe bubble where reality is just a rumor and you never have to think about things that make you uncomfortable.
First, Christians using foul language is not reality (well, at least they would feel convicted and repent); Second, Jesus himself said that while "In the world, you will have tribulations" (John 16:33) ... so I will not run from things that are uncomfortable and where I'll be safe in my own little bubble. Jesus said "Go and preach to all the world the good news" (Mark 16:15), so staying in my protected bubble is opposite of that. The reason why I gave my opinion of locking this thread is for the mere fact that foul language is a sin and a "Christian" defending the use of it is just wrong. It's kind of like me stating to a room that I'm a Christian and then asking when the orgy will start - what good and uplifting things can you read/hear about that topic?

Goose, your proving my point. you will question a man's position with God because he does not view swearing as being evil. a little overboard, perhaps?

There is no list archangel - sin is all on 1 line. Sin is doing what is wrong or not doing what is right according to God (Colossians 3:8, Ephesians 4:29).
first of all, I have seen no verse that says all sin is the same. just because they share one similarity does not mean they all have the same weight. Here in this earth, we see the consequences vary to the level of sin done. in the bible, God sets different punishments for different levels of wrong doing.

now, okay... in Colossians 3:8, it is establish that we are not supposed to speak filthy language. now, what does that mean specifically? is the "******oops*******oops*******oops*******oops*" filthy? I think we can agree the F-word is, although it is hardly offensive in many circles... is the S-word filthy? is crap foul? how about darn? who defines whether a word is foul or not?
the bible did not say "thou shalt not say so and so word." in a matter of fact, words such as ******oops*******oops*******oops*******oops*(more particurly, damnation) are found in the bible itself. all it says is do not speak foul language (and unwholesome talk, i believe, refers more to gossip and lying than cursing).
I don't think that "filthy language" refers to a group of select words that one group of people define as "swear words." rather, I see it as the content of statement; what you are saying, not necessarily how. now, of course, words determine content, but the use of a word doesn't always limit the content to being foul. imo, this issue is not that clear cut.

Christians using foul language is not reality
yes, it is. not hard to prove, ya know. many just don't think it's wrong.

he reason why I gave my opinion of locking this thread is for the mere fact that foul language is a sin and a "Christian" defending the use of it is just wrong.
that is all the more reason to keep the thread open. closing it will everybody in their ways, while adding resentment. sometimes we need to finish the debate. If it gets uncivil, then sure, a lock might be necessary, but a discussion will allow us to clear up many matters.
and what if, say, someone who swears and is not convinced that it is wrong, but feels that it might be. this could be the way to convince him.
hopefully, we are all here to seek knowledge; civil debate is a great way.

But there is a proper place for debate and this is not it. The proper debate on "Can Christians Curse" needs to be the RD forum.

This is a topic on ToJ's stance on behavior within PUGs in the game of GuildWars. As such, ToJ's stance that cursing is innappropriate behavior is where we are coming from. If this thread does not get back on topic, I will lock it.
