Custom WoW Signatures

I just finished a new addition to the website. Now members of Redeemed and Mustard Seed Conspiracy along with our friends in HIS and The Forgiven can have their own custom signature image for their profile on the forums.

How it works is we make use of roster data provided by Allakhazam. You can find info and links to Allakhazam's site and the WoWReader on the signature image page. You can also use the links to the various guild in the first paragraph to see if you are on the roster.

So lets get to the good stuff. First you need to go to our Signature Image page:

http://www.toj.cc/wow/members/signatureimage/

Follow the simple steps. On step 3, you will get an example of your image along with various links you can use. Copy one of the CGA Signature Code texts. The one you choose will depend on if you want it to link to your Allakhazam profile or not. Now, take the link and click on your User CP link in the upper left hand corner of the CGA Forums. Choose to Edit Signature. From there, paste the text which should look something like this:

[tojwow]g=r&p=Sandric[/tojwow]

Click Save and post away!

Doh, it appears that Allakhazam's rosters are showing duplicate entries. This is causing my image creation script to get a little confused. I am trying to fix the problem as soon as I can and will reply back here. Until then, I apologize for the issues.

I dunno...I've heard some nasty things about Allakhazam. Think what we're doing is safe, Sensei?

I am fine with my sig....

I have heard good and bad about Allakhazam, but I practice safe internet..

Allakhazam did have a problem with one of their advertiser creating an add that could compromise unpatched IE browsers. The offending add was removed. Those that choose not to update their browser or use one of the safer alternative browsers were the only ones effected by it.

So, bottom line is use of Allakhazam is not required to be in the guild. It is only required if you want to make use of the signature feature. So use at your own risk. I made sure to put this disclaimer in the roster and singature pages.

Also, right now Allakhazam is the only site that I know off that makes this data public in a format that can easily be used in a website. Thottbot and other sites do not. So until an alternative can be found, Allakhazam is the best source at the moment.

Looks like some of the issues have cleared up from allakhazam's side of things. I still see a couple of duplicates in the rosters for a couple of the guilds but it is not as many as this weekend. I am still looking into a way of handling duplicate names and hope to have a fix in place soon.

The custom signature code isn't working for me. I copied and pasted the exact code, double-checked it, then triple-checked it. I tried it in both Firefox and IE and neither displayed the signature image.

:(

This has been corrected as can be seen by the examples that now work. enjoy!

Specifically, newer profiles were causing the problem. Because they were new, they did not have professions yet and it made the number of fields smaller in the profile. My script did not like it so I changed it from looking at position to searching for the name of the field it wants.

To keep the signatures fast, I cache the roster data from allakhazam on our server and only update it every 24 hours. I checked the roster on allakhazam and you show up on it so it will show up on our site soon too.
