UPDATE: Changelog has been released. Added link to it.

On July 1st, Relic will start an open beta for its v1.4 (a.k.a. "There is Only War") update, which includes a lot of new content and features for multiplayer, and major, radical changes to the multiplayer balance. The changes are so significant that any existing strategies will probably have to be scrapped.

The Beta is signed up through Steam. Instructions are posted here.

As for what is in the update:

New Observer and Referee options: Now custom multiplayer matches can be viewed by spectators with a detailed look on players' status. GameReplays.org has a video showcasing some of the new Observer features. (Note: balance updates not shown in this video.)

8 New Multiplayer Maps: This brings the total map count to 18.

Map Editing Tool: See this blog post for more info.

Multiplayer Balance Changes: Here is the Changlog. It is huge. The Relic team also released two 25 minute videos, and one 35 minute podcast showcasing/describing some of the changes made.

Dev Battle Video 1 - Tyranids vs. Eldar
Dev Battle Video 2 - Space Marines vs. Orks
Relic Podcast - There is Only War

I am busy this week, but next week I should be able to put a decent amount of time into the Beta. I am very encouraged with the changes Relic showcased since it is directly addressing community feedback and showing they are not hesitant in making dramatic changes when necessary.

I love what I've read/saw. I'll be downloading it as soon as it becomes available -which if previous experience says anything, it'll be in another hour or two.

The big one for me though is the eldar buff and map editor! WoooooT!

The decision to axe (for the most part) rippers and moving the Carni into T2 is really interesting.

[update] Due to unforseen technical difficulties, it won't be out until tomorrow.
Oh well.
