Doom 3

So I read the doom 3 review. I didn't agree with everything, but hey that is the case with most reviews. However I gotta give the guy props (see I can use new slang!) for standing up for his beliefs and moral convictions.
What I don't like is the amount of flames he recieved because of this. When can people stop being so fanboyish and start discussiing things in a proper manner?
I do realize that the age of many of the people that posted comments are probably below the age to even play an 'm' rated game. This only shows the maturity of the people playing this game.
What do you all think? Please, if you answer and disagree with the review, try not to be rude about it. Explain your point briefly and with respect for all those that might be reading.
Let's not have the same fan boy behavior that you see on many other portions of the 'net.

you can find my thoughts on the thread in the comments section called doom 3 revisited ... as for the record I am 24
nore do i see anything i said as a flame maybe harsh but not a flame

I'm 22, and its not about age. There are guys that are 30 that have the maturity level or a 5 year old. And there are 10 year olds that have the maturity level of a 30 year old. It about how the person was raised. I think a 10 year old could play doom 3 if he wanted to.
Most of us probobly grew up playing games we shouldn't have. CS is rated mature, yet I've played against 11 year olds that have pwned me.

I think this thread refers to:

If not, my comments do.

I would have added them to the review section, but that functionality seems to be broken.

here goes...

I wonder what game was really reviewed here? It sure wasn't Doom 3.

Story: there is no fleet. There is no negotiations, or hostages. There is no strong military friendships. The only "squads" might be found in multi-player modes. No one has seen an escape pod yet.

Gameplay: No, most of the system requirements come from loading and manipulating large textures. The single player game is "on rails" or "scripted". Of all games, Doom 3 is the least best described as having limitless actions. The multiplayer game is quite modable, which has nothing to do with the single player experience.

Desecration is nearly impossible, as bodies disappear immediately after dying.

Welding doors shut is not a single nor multi-player feature. Maybe such a multi-player mod is out. The selection of weapons is roughly the same as any previous Doom or Quake.

Graphics:

There is no cooperative mode as implied. There is also no way to lie down... so how did the fellow marine smother the grenade?

Sounds

What surviving marines? The only marines I encountered were zombies/possessed and fought against me.

Language: The gameplay described never happens in single player, and would require a cooperative mod in order to occur in multiplayer. Perhaps the language was coming from on-line players?

I'd love to find and play the game described... I already have Doom 3, the reviewer's game, whatever it is, sounds more interesting!

It's his beliefs and moral convictions that are brought into question (not to mention his questionable reviewing skills).

If he was so turned off by this game, why did he play the WHOLE thing? You get a good taste of the game on the first level, he didn't have to spend all those hours to play the whole thing to understand that there were things in the game that were contrary to his morals.

I'm sorry, but the whole review was hypocritical.

Why even go out of your way to purchase a game like this if you're even remotely concerned about its content? And at what point in the game did he realize that issues of hell and "satanic" imagery were being used? What did he do then? Did he stop then and there and take the game back because it offended him? No, he did not. HE CONTINUED TO PLAY THE GAME UNTIL ITS CONCLUSION. Sorry, but who among you are going to waste your time and energy playing a game that you don't like? That you find boring? I daresay that you wouldn't play a game very long if you didn't find it intruiging. What other reason would he have for playing the game through in its entirety? Don't make him a martyr and say he played the entire game to let everyone else know how bad it was, that's bs and you know it. If you were flipping through the cable tv channels and ran across a gay porn channel, would you change the channel as soon as you realized what it was or would you sit there and watch the whole movie so you could tell your friends and family to stay away from it?

Sorry, the reviewer went out of his way to acquire the game and played it to his heart's content. Notice he didn't say at the end of the review that he returned the game or threw it away. Dollars to donuts it's still on his hard drive getting play time.

So please, explain to me how he is standing up for his beliefs and moral convictions.

Well,
I'll say this and it'll be the last you hear from me on this subject. I don't want to drag this on forever, mainly because I'm not going to change your minds and your not going to change mine.
Believe it or not, the boy is working off his convictions.
Now he may need to learn how to 'convey' his thoughts in a better manner and figure out the core of what he is trying to say before what he says is immortalized in words. However I can see, at least, he is trying to stay with what he believes.
As for playing through the game, well game reviewers have to play through the entierty of the game, like it or not.
I know many of you disagree with what he says, but in the end it is only one person's opinion. Play the game to your hearts content, just try to do it without seeming to be less mature then you should be.
BTW I am surprised that many of the authors of the comments are the ages that were stated earlier in this thread. I figured it had to be angst ridden teen fanboys. Go figure.
Ah well.. I plan on playing doom 3 tonight and starting to figure out how to mod it. Anyone interested in that?

I think, that if people must insist on throwing their opinions at the author, then do it in an email or something along those lines. Some of the people that commented refer to themselves as over the age of 20, well let's see, you're over the age of 20 and judging a review on a Christian website because your a die-hard fan of the game?!?!?!?!

Doom III goes against my faith, just like it does Dan's. I won't play the game, no matter how modable the engine is, or how much havoc I could wreak in single player. My faith shows me that if we center ourselves around evil things, we only give evil a backdoor into our minds. My 2 cents...

BTW, speaking of modding, I wouldn't mod the Doom III engine anyways. Why mod the weaker engine, when you can mod the beast. I'm talking about Half-Life 2. No other game can even begin to touch Half-Life's mods, and Half-Life 2 will be the same, only with deadly graphics and insane mod possibilities.

...seeing as you haven't attempted to mod the Half Life 2 engine... and you haven't attempted to mod the Doom 3 engine. I see your point as null and void. You have no experience of either.

No email was given to respond to. To the left of the review screen is a small box that says, "COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW". That was the option that was available, that was the option that was used.

Kudos to you. But if the game truly went against the reviewer's faith, then he wouldn't have played the ENTIRE GAME. After all, you won't even play it at all, let alone play through the entirety of the game.

I'm with the previous poster. If you haven't played the game, and you've said you won't, then how do you know what the engine can do? Doom made a name for itself because of it's modability, not just the basic game. And it did this long before Half-Life was around. I'm sorry, but your comments are just incorrect and uneducated.

I am a Christian, I dont need to be afraid of going to hell any time something offensive comes up, Doom3 has nothing in it that bothers me, because all in all its just a bunch of coding, Theres nothing evil in it, how can a bunch of 1's and 0's be evil? Its all in perception. I would like people who are weak in their faith as the person who did this review to not talk to other people because they give Christians with common sence a bad name and everyone thinks we whine about every little thing. I just think if you dont already like the game you have no business even buying it, much less releasing a very biased totaly unfair review of one of the greatest games of all time(26th greatest game of all time on any system, 5Th greatest game of all time on computer), Ive actually played bible games when i was young with much more demons in it. If everyone would wake up and realize your not demons killing people, your a marine killing demons and fighting all of hell. I still dont see why any Christian would call that bad, The review makes the guy seam like he likes demons because he hates to kill em. Its kinda like a nazi playing wolfenstine, its just going to end up with a biased view.

Ive currently finshed a Very vast mod with over 30 changes to the game and gameplay, such as adding lighting to weapons and such, along with making the minigun realistic.

I wana comment on people that think evil will get in their minds by playing this. Ive not gone to church in 5 years, Ive been hanging out with a bad crowd for a long time and ive broken about every ultra religious persons rule, guess what? Im stronger in my faith then ever, I feel like i have a direct pipeline to talk with Christ and ive lead many people to Christ by not being the ultra religious person, they all think its great that they have a chance for salvation and they dont have to be scared to say crap and that they can live their lives. So if you are weak minded or very impressionable(you see someone on tv get shot and you go and shoot someone) i dont think you have any business playing the game, but if you have some common sence this game shouldnt affect you. And the deal with the occult symbols, yes i really dont think it adds much to the game other than making you realize your fighting evil not some aliens.

I also wana add, the game isnt gorey at all, its just realistic. You yourself have potentional to be gorey, just cut yourself open and you can say your gorey, then OHH NOO, because your gorey your evil lol.

Now your doing like dan did, your bashing something because you cant play it because you wana call it evil, why oh why do people do this, are they that arrogant?
and HL2 looks like crap honistly, But why would you play HL2, its just doom3 with aliens it makes no sence doom3 isnt any worse then HL2, so you better get to calling it evil and bashing it.

I just have one suggestion for you, Play the game, then if you suddenly turn into a demon then you better stop, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery 8 times in a roe and getting killed by a dodo.
