DVD Decoder

It seems like a lot of people are having computer problems lately.

A few days ago the DVD players on my PC stopped working because of a missing "DVD decoder".

I thought of everything I have done since the last time I watched a DVD on my computer that would cause the file to go missing, or to erase. I did uninstall one of my DVD applications because it wasn't working properly (it would always freeze up when loading), so that could have been it. I also installed a new, second, harddrive recently, but I have no idea why that would be a problem.

The DVD player I uninstalled is the same one that came with my PC and is on the bootable OEM (or whatever) disc. Originally my PC was an eMachines, but I've upgraded it since I bought it with a new motherboard and video card, among many other things. Anyway, for one, I'm not sure if the bootable disc will work with my new motherboard. For two, I'm not sure if it would fix my problem anyway.

So, my questions are these: how can I get a free DVD decoder (not a trial version), including the possibility of using my bootable disc; and if I were to buy a new DVD hardware would a decoder come with it (I need and have been looking at a new one anyway)?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions :D

eerrr well that's tricky cause a decoders is basically the dvd-drive if I'm correct it might just be all about finding the right dvd software ... maybe the error message exactly could help

Have you tried playing the DVD through Windows Media Player? If so, what version of WMP are you using?

I have, and it still doesn't work. I have WMP version 10.

This is the page I'm taken to for the error after trying to open using the InterActual player: http://player.interactual.com/help/support/articles/0111.asp

I tried searching for the decoder but the system can't find it.

btw - PowerDVD was the primary application I was using for watching DVDs before I uninstalled it. I was hoping to download and reinstall it, but at the time I didn't realize you had to pay for it. I then installed InterActual player (which comes with most DVDs), which is when I noticed it quit working.
