Easiest and cheapest way to do PiP in video editing software?

I'm looking to create a video with picture-in-picture and I don't want to drop several hundred dollars on Adobe Premiere Pro.

What are my options?

I've been banging my head against the wall with this project all day and I'm just running in circles now. I've tried VirtualDub, I've tried Wax, I've downloaded the trial of Adobe Premiere CS4 (and it's taking WAY TOO LONG to install), and I've downloaded the trial of Corel VideoStudio Pro.

Are there any freeware video editing applications that can do picture-in-picture?

Well...there USED to be...not sure if it is around anymore...or if it is even supported... A couple years ago I used http://jahshaka.org/ to do some video editing along with WMM when I did not have Premiere... It was a bit unstable, and under-supported, but if I could get it to stand long enough, it got what I needed done... Looking around at the site it looks like some work has been done on the project since...you can try it out...

but...Premiere is your best bet...but pricey...but that is what I use... (free trial FTW!!!)

The most recent version of Jahshaka available for download is from 2006. :(

I didn't want to use any trial software to get the job done, but I ended up using Corel VideoStudio X2 for the picture-in-picture effect. It's less expensive ($70 USD) than other options, but still pricey for a project that I was hoping to finish for free.

Oh well. I have 29 more days to use VideoStudio at least.

My trial install of Corel VideoStudio X2 is going to expire in early August and I still haven't figured out a way to create picture-in-picture video with free software.

Anyone new suggestions?

I just uninstalled Corel VideoStudio X2 because the trial expired.

I'd like to create some picture-in-picture gameplay videos of Wii Sports Resort's Swordplay games, so I'm on the lookout for a new program that allows users to create picture-in-picture videos.

Any new suggestions?

Okay, now that I am using linux, I came across LiVES...it works GREAT in Linux, but supposively you can get it to work in Windows, but not sure on the stability, but there are a lot of awesome Video Editing options in Linux...
