To address the original topic about teaching our children in the public schools to be tolerant of homosexuals...young children do not differentiate well between being tolerant of homosexuals and being tolerant of homosexuality. There is a huge difference as some have already said. A young child will in most cases take being tolerant of the person to the next level and be tolerant of the act.
The Spongebob controversy is a very minor thing compared to a lot of other material that has been in the public school system for many years. I have been a public school teacher for 13 years and continue to teach middle school at present. My wife and I recently made the decision to home school our children. Mainly because of the liberal indoctrination that goes on daily in public schools. Not only with the homosexuality issue but many others. I am there and I see it first hand. Tolerance of homosexuality as a legitimate lifestyle is taught and reinforced.
Whether homosexuality is a learned behavior (which I believe after studying much of the research on both sides) or inherited or a combination of both is really immaterial.
It is an abomination. Even if someone were prone to be that way...it is wrong. Anyone in that situation should remain celibate.
I am not saying we should hate the homosexual and I don't think anyone else here is either. We should however take a very strong stand against the behavior and against legitimizing it in any way.
