Good News for UT3

Dodge-jumps and wall-dodge jumps are gone??? Really? Interesting... and the hardware requirements sound good, I think I'll only have to buy a new video card for top notch graphics, and until then I can play it at low.

Aw man. They originally said they were keeping the current movement system intact but "toning it down" to make it more ground-based. This is really disappointing. Trickjumps are a substantial portion of why I play UT. It's a good thing there's two Quake games in the pipeline to look forward to.

I mean, I am certainly going to buy and play UT3. I love the series too much not to reserve judgement until I can get my own hands on it. But unless they ramp up the ground movement speed or add some other movement elements, it sounds like it might be a lot slower-paced, and that is not a good thing in my book.

The system specs sound good though. I think my 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 will be okay as long as I upgrade to 2 GB of RAM and get a GeForce 7600 GPU, which I can budget for okay. I turn most of the graphics to medium or low anyway.

Thanks for posting this Tea, very informative article!

I'm wondering how much influence "Gears of War" had on the development and style of gameplay in UT3? I remember reading an interview with Cliffy B quite a while ago where he was talking about how he wanted to do more realistic, "heavy" physics in his games; the whole flying around thing, leaping 20 "feet" into the air was too "floaty".

I played a bit of GoW over the weekend and that reminded me of the interview, because GoW really is a ground-based tactical shooter. Not much flying around in that game.

Kraniac, what are the two Quake games? Quake Zero annndd...

Tentatively titled "Quake 5", which is going to be a direct follow up to Quake 3 Arena. It might also just be called Quake Arena. I think they realized that making Quake a single-player-focused game was a bad idea when they already have the Doom franchise for that.

On an unrelated note, I want Quake Zero so badly it hurts a little.
