It's Thursday, 9:30am.
This time tomorrow we should be feeling the beginning effects of Hurrican Rita.
For those that don't know, I live in Houston which happens to be smack dab in the middle of the hurricane track.
We had planned to leave town and stay with relative in Austin, but it's become impossible to leave. Most gas stations have been out of gas since yesterday and the ones that do have gas have lines several blocks long. Even if I had a full tank, getting out of town isn't even remotely possible. The freeways are at a dead stop. Beaumont to Houston (east to west) is normally a 1 hour drive. Reports are saying that it's taking them 15 hours just to get here, which would be on their way to another city. That means they're running on empty...remember what I said about the gas stations? Stuck in that traffic are fuel tankers which are sorely needed, but won't get into town until it's too late. People are running out of gas just trying to get out of town.
It's a horrible situation all around.
There's a rock welling in my stomach as I wait for this category 5 hurricane to hit us.
I went to five different stores yesterday looking for bottled water. I finally stopped into a little asian run convenience store and lucked out and bought their last case. Lucked out again this morning at the grocery store and found another one.
The next few days are going to suck!

Should be very interesting to say the least.
I'm expecting power to go out tomorrow morning sometime and HOPING to be back up and running sometime Monday. That's best case scenario.
Worst case...getting prodded with a pitchfork in the underworld
