Here is a poll that I should've put with the previous thread, so please JUST VOTE here...discuss in the previous thread...I know...confusing... :)

Xion, Just an fyi, Redeemed has tried on several attempts to get GroupCalender for the guild but for whatever reason it just didn't catch on call it laziness or lack of interest but it is a great tool in-game that doesn't require a separate sign-up site to setup raids or instances. However it does have a few drawbacks as at times it can be a memory hog.

Ehh...I do not think anything WoW is a memory hog...WoW + Addons have never taken anymore than about 35MBs of RAM...but anyway...one of the main reasons I do a lot of what I do is to help Gohom, my bro. He is on dial-up on a somewhat slow PC, and cannot always access the forums, however he will be 70 in a week, but never knows what is going on...and it upsets him...but he can't help it...he is 15, and my parents will not get broadband for various reasons...

how can he play wow on dial up but not check the forms? ;)

forums are a lot lighter on the browser!

I was saying true to Nevi, but I guess Goblit's point is true too:) Calendar works sometimes for some things sometimes, but it has never caught on widely

The only problem with Group Calender is convincing a large enough player base to use it and then acknowledge not everybody is going to use it or instal it.

Actually, it's quite weird...the dial up they use has changed the compression thingy, and now web pages that require sign in takes 5-10 mins to log into...which makes these forums time out for him everytime... My friends dad changed the compression thingy to better WoW on it because his kids play, and he maintains the dialup...and it is free dialup so he is allowed to do it... :)

I was one of the big initial proponents of Group Calendar for Redeemed (about a year ago), and am the first to acknowledge that it was a failed experiment.

1) For whatever reason, individual setups were a nightmare ... version issues, the thing wouldn't sync, etc etc. It was a big distraction trying to get people up and running.

2) The performance hit is an issue ... while is seemed to impact people differently, frankly introducing any lag into a 25-man raid because of a calendar mod just isn't going to be accepted.

3) As mentioned above, without critical mass it just doesn't work well. It's like the /lfg functionality within WoW ... it's great in theory but there just aren't enough participants for the matchmaking to work.

4) Back a year ago, for those of us who got through #1-#3 ok, the problem was that even for a scheduled event, you'd get no-shows. Lots of 'em. Reality is that for Redeemed, many many of us have RL priorities that >> WoW. While there's some probably that if we've, say, signed up for a raid and need to cancel that we'll be able to pop a quick post to the forums...Group Calendar doesn't let you do that (you can look at schedules extra-game but not change them). So, again, the matchmaking didn't work out in practice even when it seemed ok in theory. Again, given our schedules, you're better off getting in game and lfg'ing it in guild chat and just having the mindset that sometimes it'll come together and sometimes it won't.

5) Also, reality is that php is out best solution for trying to arrange the 25-mans raids and those are really the ones where the logistical complexity is most needing of a more formal mechanism. It works well enough right now and certainly ain't broke so we ain't gonna mess things up by trying to fix it. One of the reason why php and the forums work well, I think, is that it is outside the game and something that people can check and modify and update from work or whatever.

Anyhow, as most have mentioned, GroupCalendar seems like a really cool mod and I don't think that anyone's saying that you should't install it ... but I think it's pretty definite that we won't make any efforts to make it a guild standard mod like Omen/Thread and Bigwigs/Deadly are.

You all failed the test. Xion said in the initial post, "just vote here, discuss in the other thread". I'm giving you all an E for the day! :p

I've been saying it since day one, Blizzard needs to implement such a feature into the default ui for guilds, even if its just an in game white board style idea that you have to go to a physical location to interact with.

I guess a "guild hall" would be a great idea (over player housing) to solve this, but I digress.

it was brought up that the main thing he was going after was staying informed. Im not sure you need that if he is mainly talking about raids, they are getting to be pretty regular again, friday and monday are 25 man nights and Kara in between. Kara wouldnt work as well with GC since it varies and a lot of times Goblit isnt sure when she will be running it more than a day or so in advance and it is determined by how far they get each night anyway, I think the MOTD is the best place for that info anyway. I think the main thing about GC would be for 5 mans and as has been said it seems to work out just as well to just ask in guild chat when you feel like running something. If you set it up on the calendar and have a no-show or two you end up asking guild chat anyway:)

I vote yes

I vote yes, why not?, it is a vastly different program then it was a year ago. While it may not be for every one, every one need not install it. It is extremey useful for small runs (5man-10mans) for attunement keys group, Heroics, group quest, and Kara too! I am new to this guild but have used this ad in several other guilds of which I was a Gm or co GM. It worked very well. Yes it is dependant on particapation but what is not? It is also great for setting up an impromtu event with short notice! as it flashes in game as soon as a change is made to calendar. It would be silly to deny some of the membership a vaulable tool for advancing their "Toon" because some do not want to be a part of it for what ever reason.

It requires 1 member (with officer status) to be on adminstrator duty, his logging in and out sync's info) and all other's are set too auto. It is not a memory hog, lol, nor does it cause lag because its not runnining anything after initial sync.

I think it would be a valueble asset for those of us lower 70s not in the 25mans yet or not part of the clique's. We need an "ingame" way to meet and organise. It would remain a personal choice to use or not use.

DOK

This is like the 3rd time we've had a poll about this mod (or one like it).

THEY DO NOT WORK!
