17Nov05 - GvG Report (sorry, can't fix the title)
Six members of SoE pulled together late Thursday night to participate in a copule impromptu GvG matches. The results were a little less than ideal. If nothing else, it was a good learning experience. PvP is like a totally different game and is going to require very, if not completely, different builds.

A few things I noticed and were discussed last night:

  • Both teams used strong, coordinated attacks. My first death in the second match I died in what seemed like one hit.
  • The second team also waited until after the 2 minute mark to fight hard to prevent some rezzing at the 2 minute mark.
  • The first team used the ranger spirit "Edge of Extinction" we all took damage when one person died because we didn't spread out.
  • The first team also left a decoy behind who ran around the alternate path and attempted to distract us with an attack on the base.
  • I noticed at one point that after taking the flag stand, the opposing team in at least one of the matches brought a second flag out and planted it near the stand to allow a quick re-take of the stand if we managed win it.
  • Both teams waited to actually attack the Guild Lord until all other defenses were gone. The Guild Lord has a skill called "Natural Resistance" like many bosses have that cuts the duration in half for timed conditions and hexes. Also, the Guild Lord actually gets weaker through the corse of the match (until 14:39). Read a little more about GvG on the latest Fansite Friday.
  • Although one team used the catapult against us, it just seemed to be something they did while we regrouped after rezzing.
  • A reminder: auto rez happens at each even minute, but there seems to be a buffer before the rez that you have to die before for it to work. It also does not rez you once you have reached 60% DP.
  • Near the end of the second match, 3 of us with nearly 60%DP managed to take out one necro from the other team. We were all focusing on the same target.
  • Both teams we played against did have at least one henchmen on their team, so it may be a slight handicap, but is managable.

Thanks to all who participated. If you have any further observations, please post them here. We want to be sure that we learn as much as we can from this experience so that we can take that knowledge on to our next GvG match.

One major thing to add: we need to figure out the best way to win the initial battle at the flag stand. Once we send all of them back with a DP, and we start getting those morale boosts, the tide will turn in our favor-- that gives us a HUGE advantage.

I wanted to ask you a question.....for the best aspects of the guild im creating a new character....my uncle has quit playing for he has now got his old EQ1 acoount back and is now done, unfortunetly, with GW! What is best for the guild for me to create....a PVP charry or a normal Charry????plz,...opinions greatly appreciated!

Wow, the PVP game sounds *entirely* different than the single player! Guild Lord? CTF? Wow...

Yhea.

I was at the 10 o' clock session, and MAN was that different. (at least I was in a good mood after gettting from Frost Gate to LA) I got to die more than 3 or 4 times in... a couple minutes. Next time, I think we should try to find out HOW IN THE WORLD we attack other guild halls instead of vice versa. And that we attack their guild lord first.

BUT! Here's the funny part. I had to leave before the second match ( :( ) but there was a funny side to it.

me: DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION!!! *dances*
Toj pwnerer of Ltc(can't remember the name perfectly): *dances*
me:*flute*
Toj pwnerer of Ltc: What's that?
me: flute *dances*

So we along with some others started dancing, right? During the dance...

(I'll just call her Toj): LEEEEEERRRROOOOOOYYY JEEEENNNKKKIIIIIINNNNSSS
me: NO!!! YOU KILLED LEROY JENKINS!!!
Toj:
me: Unless...
me: NO!!! YOU COULDN'T BE! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Toj: ROFL
(someone else): Are we gonna start or do weird stuff with the naem "leroy jenkins"

rofl i love my name toj pwnerer of ltc but yeah, i didt reconize the guy flute emote.

18Nov05 - we did 2 more GvG matches on Saturday night. Again we were crushed, but this was the first time for a few more members. In our defense, one of the teams we played was a low 300's on the Guild ladder (we're currently high 6000's).

At this point our biggest need is to just gain experience in the totally different realm of PvP. I would suggest practicing in the competition arenas (try out different skill sets and attributes of your professions), working to unlock elites and to use our PvP night(s) to spend some (not all) events in the team arenas working on team builds.

We should continue to do some events in GvG just so we get used to the format and all the aspects of that game type. We have experienced the win (or lose) conditions are of the map as well as the auto-resurrection pattern. Also, we have seen a bit of the fight for control of the flag tower. However, we have yet to make a successful raid with the theif or repair the siege weapon to lay siege on the enemy base. These will come in time with further experience.
