Harry Potter Book

It was good. I enjoyed it. It could use Christianity but again you can see Christ in the book if you look. I would say more but i would hate to ruin the book for those who have not finished it yet.

You can see Christ in anything if you force your mind to it. Then again you could see anything if you look hard enough for it. Of course most of the time if you have to force it, it isn't intended and therefore why would you fool yourself.

I don't read the books but my theory was that Harry was the final Horcrux and thus would die. I have yet to find out yet. I hope I am right. Anyone who has read the book in it's entirety pm me what happens as I have no plan on reading any of these books I'm just curious to see what happens.

However, i believe that all of creation cannot help but reflect God. It has been tainted by sin but all of creation is still God's and in one way or another will glorify him.

Didn't the book just come out today? You read it already...? Its like reading a dictionary..its HUGE! My mother is reading it so I will get the scoop! I like my Dragon Chronicle series right now.

I have not gotten into reading the Harry Potter series and right now I have no intention of doing so until it calms down enough and is not as mainstream as it currently is, so if anybody wants to tell me how it ends that'll be cool as well.

Do it over PMs cause I won't be able to pick up the book for another little while. I was one of those on LotR's side back when it was a big fight for which was better (and I still think it's LotR). I only started reading them maybe 2 years ago, and found them surprisingly entertaining; though, I wouldn't call myself a fanboy or anything. They really are a good read. Rowling has an amazing talent for gripping readers and making them want to turn the page.

I just started reading it today... I haven't read enough of it to really say if I like it or not, but I really think that it's been too long since #6 because I can't remember who half the people are or what half the stuff is.

Yeah, but i have always been a very fast reader. I can read either books 5,6,or 7 in 2-5 hours depending on my mood.

No this is not true. Paganism is not of God and therefore cannot glorify him. I don't know if you have ever been involved in it..trust me..there's nothing godly in pagansim.

well then..since Harry Potter is most assuredly NOT God's creation..And with the abundance of occult, and pagan themes in it..I just don't see how you can find God in it?

Harry Potter bothers me immensely. I don't condemn anyone who reads it..however i would not want to put the occult into my mind by reading such a series. It's a very occult filled series presented in a seductive way even though all of the occult themes, actions, and characters are right in the open.

Yeah, know and my friend has a little chat on this subject the other day. I know Harry Potter has alot of witchcraft in it but is it really bad? I mean its not like IM going to go practice it when IM done reading it. However, do you think it fills your mind with negativity? I don't feel it has an effect on me but I could be wrong....What do you guys think?

having spent 10 years deeply involved int he occult and 5 years before that exploring it..i think i have a good idea.

The Bible is clear about not exposing yourself to bad things. If you expose yourself to porn..your thoughts change..most times..in a permanent way. Exposing oneself tot he occult..you are changed forever. Reading a book series that projects the occult as something harmless is a lie...the occult is far from harmless. If you want to explore the occullt or porn..i suggest you do it via others that have fallen and through the Grace of God come through it.

Porn is a lifelong addiction(like alcohol or drugs). The occult can be gotten rid of as well. Talk to Christians that have been involved int he occult and come out before you naively expose yourself to one of Satan's most seductive ways to drag folks down with him to hell.

Are you a Lord of the Rings fan? If Harry Potter bothers you, so should Lord of the Rings then with the reasons you've given for Harry Potter being bad.

I understand why you say that it bothers you.

But saying that you can't see God in the Harry Potter series is a lie to me at least. In all of the books so far, there has been some form of Christ's death. I haven't read all of book 7, but they've talked about life after death a couple times already and they sort of shuffle away from the subject.

Really no one here can say that Harry Potter is bad or give any kind of negitive feeling towards his using of magic because when we play GW we use magic... and magic is also in almost every video game. Even a Christian game i heard of had magic in it.

Just something to throw out there. I myself do not like harry potter only because i never did get into the series, not for any other reason. I saw the first two movies, enjoyed them, but never got captivated or got the urge to read/watch more of them.

I like the book purely as a fun adventure into the world of fiction. I read it yesterday, and I got the same out of it as the other six - entertainment. It's a creative thing that Rowling has created and I enjoy it simply based on that. I suppose it's how you take it - the magic in it doesn't bug me (no more than Conjure Flame or Elemental Attunement does) - but I can see how some believers might not want their kids reading it. I'm not a parent so I wouldn't know, and I'm old enough to know that it's not real.

Other than that, there was a Bible verse quoted in this book, which I thought was cool too see. :)

you don't know me very well then. I am not going to run around here..and never have..knowingly stated something that was not true. Truth and lies are clear cut. It's not a lie what i said..it's the truth.

LOTR has very well defined roles for magic. research Harry Potter a bit in the magical symbology..it's loaded with the occult..LOTR isn't.

I think what most are getting at is that in condemning a work like Harry Potter, you must be prepared to condemn similar works as well (GW, LotR, Star Wars, many other movies, books, plays, etc).

Getting back to finding God in Harry Potter, of course you can. I'd be willing to bet you could find SOME element of God in nearly anything. But in many cases, you'd skewing the original intent and that, in my opinion, is almost disgraceful to the work in question. I respect Rowling as a writer, but I've heard some strange reports concerning her private life which lead me to believe she would not be happy about books like "Finding God in Harry Potter".

For perspective's sake, you could probably skew the Bible to mean a number of things Christians would find terribly offensive (ie- proponents of homosexuality have a number of "helpful" verses). Anyway, Harry Potter remains to me simply a form of entertainment (and a good one :D). Not trying to offend anyone; that's just what I'd come to. See ya!

Each of the books has some representation of Christ's death and sacrifice. From the first book to the seventh book, each one has a representation of it. I finished the 7th book about 5 minutes ago and it has the most blatant representation out of all of them.

Harry Potter also has a very defined role for magic. Much like LOTR's roles. It's good versus evil.

I'm with Chad. Very good form of entertainment. I don't really care if theres some unrealistic representation of magic and witches and wizards in it as long as it can actually manage to keep my attention for more than 5 minutes. I know that I have the power of the Spirit that rose my Savior from the dead in me.
