How do I dual boot my hard drive?

I'm very frustrated with my OS, constant blue screens and repeating errors/glitches.

I had that chat with Pastorwirl and it seems a good idea.

I use WinXP64, with that, its 2x of WinXP32. Well, duh!

It is also the most unstable OS I have ever used!

Half of programs can use it, 90% of 2007+ games will not work (except demos), etc.

I still have the WinXP32 CD, hasn't been used, yet.

If I can't dual boot my hard drive, how can I save all my files and use WinXP32 on a single HDD? Make 2 partitions?

I want it so I can use WinXP32 with my current files. I don't have a external HDD and using DVDs to backup may take a long time. Roughly 80GB of files I would need to backup.

I use a 320GB SataII Seagate HDD.

In my experiences making 2 partitions did not work so well. I was still getting the same errors from xp with the 2k partition. If all else fails. get an external hard drive and save everything to it. And just reformat to a more stable os.

you are going to have to repartition and reformat..so backup your data. then reload with xp 32-bit and leave xp 64 bit in the dust..:)

Its so annoying to reformat.

On the oldest P133mhz, I must of reformatted it 5 times and got it check out from a technician 3 times, just to find out the hard drive is defective.

I, truly hate reformatting!

As soon as you replied, Hescominsoon, I cried in despair. Then I sighed and got angry, then frustrated, annoyed and now, disappointed. X_X

The last PC I used to reformat required the original Windows XP Product Key Code.

I'm wondering if that will give me that problem when I install WinXP32 OS.

Or what if I install WinXP32 OS and the Product Key Code is stuck on WinXP64, how can I get rid of it?

You could use a program like partition magic to split one drive into 2 or more partitions to install an OS on. It will save any programs or file by moving them away from your new partition.

The keys may be used on the same OS's you have but you may have to register with microsoft whenever you use the same key for either OS. I know when I ordered my vista 64 bit my 32 bit key is tied directly to my 64.

Err...I currently do not have Windows XP Home Edition.

Is it worth to buy it, again?

It just looks to me, the blue screens and errors/glitches may shorten its life expediency. The PC is almost 2 years old, but some of the hardware are a many months old; mainly the video card and PSU.

If I did get a whole new PC, I can still use the video card, PSU, DVD-RW and hard drive. I'm really hoping to get a new PC by the time SC 2 comes out (or the end of this year), to see if it is compatible to my OS, which, I highly doubt it. :(

well since we have a new OS coming out late next year............ its pretty much so u dont have to switch to vista lol

If you install windows on a second partition it usually configures a second boot entry for you. The windows boot loader is horrible and configuring it can be confusing. Mess it up and you will have to repair it in DOS, or your friendly linux live cd.

That said, it is probably in your best interest to just use 32bit winblows because you probably don't get any benefit from having the 64bit besides the extra driver issues and lack of stability.

windows xp is no longer in production..the demand for xp is still very high as folks do not want to go with the infested vista..hence low supply-high demand=higher prices
