How do I make the WEP for wireless from the router, showable?

My wireless WEP is a digits for a password to log on wireless laptops/desktops, for some that don't know it.

The problem is, its all asterisks (*), and it causes a problem cause I don't know what the wireless WEP code is! Without numbers and letters, I can not access the internet, wireless! I can't read asterisks, if I typed in asterisks on my wireless laptop, I would not work, so I'm extremely angry that it will not show my WEP code!!

WEP is the wireless encryption standard. To use it you must enter the same key(s) into the router and the wireless stations. For 64 bit keys you must enter 10 hex digits into each key box. For 128 bit keys you must enter 26 hex digits into each key box.

How am I suppose to know it when its only asterisks! As that kind of anger. I've looked for every help file, CD's, internet for freaking 3 hours! Its making me insane for such of the easiest problems.

The code won't be displayed because it is a password. Windows shows passwords as asterisks in the dialog box.

Telling us the make of router/AP you have would help but I'm sure there is a way to do a reset that would erase your settings. Unfortunately you would have to configure it all over again. My Linksys has a button on the back that resets it for example.

There is nothing that I am aware of, and I'm sure it would be illegal anyway, to read a password in it's field.

I don't like to reset it, just to find out the digit hex pass code so I can use it on my wireless stuff. But if reseting is the only option, its gonna be a real pain.

My old SMC allowed me to show it on a alternative option, I'd go there, write the digit hex pass code, and thats it, so easy!

Just go to the wireless encryption area.

type out a random 26 character with numbers and letters in notepad, copy and paste into wep 1, set wep1 as default key and save.

Nice router. I need to go wireless for my notebook and I was looking at some d-link products.

I hate resetting mine also, everything gets reset when I upgrade the firmware.
