Gerbil posted a video in another thread about a seamless space to planet game engine. Rather jaw dropping in itself... But then you realize it was posted in 2006.
What has happened since then?
Well there's this (may want to turn the music down a few notches...)
And the here's how the seamlessness of it all looks now:

The combat was from a seperate game that only shares the engine, and I'm not sure of the current status of the servers. If they're up, I want in. Like, right now.
And from the sound of it, the game is going to be just like EVE... but better (well what else can it be? they're both sandbox games and unless EVE goes twitch based and procedural, Infinity will win my vote). though it looks to be a long, long way off still. But definitely something to watch very closely.
