this is from Nihilum's website. They are the top guild in the world with something like 99% of all World First Boss kills. This is their raider's bank....all consumables.

I remember his SS's of his bags looking very similar to those back when he was going hardcore raid and pvping

Oh so this is Nihilum? Didn't They just disband? That is a lot of good stuff. Who was in Nihilum? I still have their website in my favorites. They were a very dedicated crew.

I am not sure if they broke up, although they are recruiting!

They just lost a huge streak, they had beat every boss 1st in the world since BC until recently <SK-Gaming> got a World First kill on Kil'Jaden (the final boss in Sunwell).

Most of SK-Gaming is formerly Curse, the guild that started the addon site.
They changed sponsors, going from Curse, to Meet Your Makers, to SK-Gaming.
They have also recruited two former-Nihilum players: Shaman - Neg, Paladin - Awake

Wow! That front page story on the DnT site is a really good read. It has foul foul language but is really worth reading if you ever wanted to be a hardcore raider. It gives a great warning to heed for all of us. I can't recommend it as the language is foul (did I mention its pretty foul) but after admiring DnT for a couple years now, it was very interesting to see them fall the same way hundreds of other great raiding guilds have fallen.

In order to be a quality hard core raider, you:

  • Need to be single.
  • Have no job.
  • Have no IRL responsibility.
  • Have an aversion to natural light.
  • Have an aversion to physical movement (the IRL kind).
  • Living with your mom in her basement.
  • Have no IRL friends, you cannot see them because you're always logged in.
  • Have no items to your name, such as a car. No job means no payments.
  • Be knowledgeable about computers.
  • Have a false sense of accomplishment.
  • Be some what arrogant in-game.
(I'd like to point out I am no talking about anyone on Stonemaul, Redeemed or any other guilds.)

And thats all I could think of in 5 minutes.

Thats one way to look at it, but a very pessimistic view. There also is the other side and that is professional gamers. I know that some of the players in the "world first guilds" are married with families and responsibilities but they are sponsored to play WoW. That is their real job and they get paid to put in the 40+ hrs a week on it. At least I read that on the their fourms, I don't know any one personally.

The way you coin "hardcore raiders" makes it sound like you might be jealous of them and need to put them down in order to rationalize you not being able to be one? wink wink nudge nudge..

I have to admit, I liked Progression/End-Game raiding with HK, but no one... I mean no one was that progression crazy, and none of the guild leaders pushed anyone to be prepared like *that*.

There are Progression/End-Game guilds, and then there are Hyped up Steroid-pumping guilds like Nilihum who cannot really be compared to others.

If I came back to WoW I would want to raid more, but I would never want to raid that much.

There were two reasons I included this.

1 - So that I did not offend anyone. :D

2 - Because there were no guilds on Stonemaul like Nilihum or Death and Taxes. A-Team was the closest one, but during the day most of them were no where to be seen. That tells me they had jobs or school to attend to. Also, if it weren't for HK and a few other Progression guilds, A-Team would have ever killed KT in Naxxramas, they did not have enough items for the frost resist sets. I guarantee you that Nilihum and DnT did not have that problem.

Also, I am not trying to knock people who make a living off of a video game, it would bore me to death, but if they get paid to do it then more power to them. I am knocking the people who put the game above everything else: family, friends, ...GOD. etc.

So how exactly does one get sponsored to play a game? I can understand the elite of the arena teams getting recognition and thereby attracting sponsorship, but how do you do that for PvE?!?

And what do the sponsors get out of it?
