Inscribing: What it is and why Neirai wants it enough to grind up 1200 herbs.

Hey, I'm pretty sure you've seen me grinding up herbs in the past little while, and I've had a few people ask me why I would do such a thing, particularly because I'm going to have to lose 375-level Alchemy for it. So, this thread will try to explain first my motives, secondly how Inscribing works, and finally, what benefits Inscribing will give.

First off, Wend asked me why I would drop 375-level alchemy for Inscribing. The main reason is that I believe that Inscribing will give me approximately the same personal utility (use for myself) that alchemy does, while giving a much higher utility to our guild as a whole. Right now, all I am using alchemy for is a transmute once every day if I remember to use it, and the occasional set of agility or strength potions.

One of those things (the transmute) I will miss. With inscribing, I can make scrolls of Strength and Agility that will do just fine as replacements for the elixirs. "But, Jr. -- Scrolls don't stack with buffs!" It's true. But I'll worry about that when classes get to cast Agility and Strength buffs.

The benefit that I pick up is two-fold. First, I can make Parchments which will allow enchanters (mainly Chaska, but I hope to keep some in the GB for others to use as well) to put their enchants on the Auction House. Finally. The second benefit is the construction of glyphs. Glyphs are sort of like craftable Talent points. Each player can have up to 6 of them (3 minor, 3 major,) and the glyphs add bonuses to specific spells, such as "increased area of effect size on concecrate" or "a 75% increase to moonfire damage at the cost of the initial damage spike." These I will be making a lot of at first and handing out to the guild like candy. They are also (at current analysis) not very expensive to make. I do believe everyone should have a full range of glyphs :)

How do you do inscribing? It's actually quite easy. You need herbs that you get from herbalism, in multiples of 5. Then you mill them, which is very much like prospecting, which gives you 1-3 "pigments." You turn the pigments into the appropriate ink, and then you write the ink onto a piece of paper. The entire process is actually very cheap, as the only cost (other than the herbs if you don't pick them yourself) is the piece of paper.

As I hinted above, the main gain of Inscribing is glyphs, which I will be making a lot of. Hopefully the demand for the glyphs is high enough that I can suit up a lot of people in the guild. For me, you'll have to get used to me having a big huge magical polar bear butt instead of the normal one.

Because my Death Knight is probably going to be an armorsmith, so that he can get massive BOP tanking armor.

Edit: That is, if Blizzard is including the three-tiered BOP Blacksmithing recipes again. If not, I'm not sure what my DK will do -- maybe engineering again.

You place it in Guild Members Only, under the "The Inscribing Buffet" thread.

If you're unable to see the thread, it's because you need to sign up on the "To all new members of the Forgiven" thread stickied in this forum.

That usually takes some time, so if you want to place an order, you can ask me in-game.
