Acts 13:6

"They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus..."

I remember from an earlier thread that Jesus's last name is Bar-Joseph. Could it be that this fellow, Bar-Jesus, was trying to claim that he was the son of the Son?

Update:

Acts 13:8

"But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means)..."
So Bar-Jesus means Elymas...? I thought this was interesting, and I am interested to hear what some of you have to say. If you can, provide sources to back up what you have to say.

That is interesting. and i love how you made the quote box's say "by God." very nice, very nice!

I read this in the Amplified version Acts:6-13(Amplified) and this is how I read it.

This man had claimed the name "Emyas (Bar-Jesus)", it was most likely not his name at all. If your going to masquerade as a prophet what better way than to call yourself the son of The Son.

2 Cor 11:14 states "And it is no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light;"

But in Acts 13:12 the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, became saved and believed in Christ. This is an instance of God allowing a man to be a false prophet and call himself such a foolish thing as the son of The Son to serve an purpose of salvation for another.

one has to remember that others could be named Jesus. Jesus, or Yeshua, wasn't an encredibly un-common name. It wasn't as common as the name John.... yet i could be related to people being named "James", "Doug", "Paul", etc.... not really common, yet many others were named that.
