Hi I have a moral dilemma, I currently have a part time community based job that just about pays the bills. I have a family to support as well.
I keep getting job offers in the UK (where I live)
with big video games company's, I could really do with the money/career.

My problem is I don't have peace about it and think that the lord wants me to take a different career path.

I need to make my mind up and stick with it,
Please pray for me/ message me/ pm me.
God bless you all
love in Jesus Christ

tuff stuff, but we're here for ya and praying. if u wanna talk just xfire me

Will pray for ya bud! We're here for ya, and God will show you the way, just spend sometime with him.

Praying.

I will mention in passing that the video game industry could certainly use more strong Christians. Be sure that your lack of peace is from the Lord and not your own reservations about entering a historically secular job market. Sometimes we assume God would rather have us serve on the mission field or work at a soup kitchen instead of work at a company making video games--but what if God shaped you specifically to minister to and encourage future co-workers in that industry or encourage other Christians through the games you work on?

Just my $.02.

i was gonna say sumtin like what tek said, but make sure u do what god wants. as tek said, it may be ur own feelings about working for a game company, but i also may not. ive had times in my life when im not sure if its what i want or god wants and its hard to tell. ur best bet is to pray to god an ask him to tell you what to do, he wll be sure to let u know:) will pray for ya though

The obvious question is what big game companies are you talking about they aren't all created equal. I would feel I could be a positive influence on companies like Nintendo, but, I don't think Christians should have anything to do with companies like Rockstar (GTA) where you would be forced to make to make moral compromises you should not. I'm guessing your uneasiness may stem from the possibility of having to so. I would research any company you plan to work at in depth as to their morals. Regardless, to reinforce the idea, be sure to ask BIG G and he will give you the answer :).

Firstly I wouldn't want to work with rockstar ever. The are responsible for moral filth such as ManHunt. A Leicester student who got addicted to the game re enacted out the game with identical weapons on a kid in a park. Once news got out about this shop chains stopped selling the sick garbage but rockstar refused to take any legal/ moral responsibility for their evil game claiming that it was not in any way responsible.
The student had no previous mental issues and was considered in good mental state prior to ownership of the game.

Not going into details of the content of the game but it was/is really bad /evil.

Wouldn't want to be in a rockstar employee's shoes on the day of judgment.

I guess my issues wit having peace come from knowing that some mentally unhinged people who play a violent video game will go on to commit crimes as a result of what they play.
Obviously people who play games like Mario/ wii sports/ transformers e.t.c. are much less likely. But the company's showing an interest in me are usually into more darker/violent stuff and want me to work on one of those sort of titles.

If you have pressing needs (medical bills, food, cost of living etc.) I don't think the temptation to work for questionable companies will ever go away. However, if it's not the case these are questions I ask myself when creating artwork they may help...

1. Is it pleasing and acceptable to God. We all like that to be enough motivation by itself but unfortunately sometimes it's not so...
2. If I had children one day would I be proud to show them what I made or could my work inspire them to sin?
3. Are you going to be happy with what you made? All the money in the world won't make a person happy if you have to do a job you hate all day. Being the arty type It would be anathema for me to create something that is like everyone else's idea. Seeing as how sex and violence is the norm or "everyone else's idea" for selling a product I would feel like a sell out if I resorted to that path.

Of course you will never find the perfect company to work at, but, the thing about some companies is they aren't controversial by accident, they are actively trying to be to sell games. This makes it impossible to be a positive influence within such companies as they will always be pushing you, like their players, in the opposite direction. Also I don't think there is anything wrong with an act of violence it's the context of it's usage. When selecting a game to play I usually ask myself does the violence in it exist to glorify violence itself or does it have a moral impetus?

Anyway I shall pray for you.
