Legends: Free Multiplayer FPS (better than Gunz)

I just found this on Digg. After Sierra fired Dynamix at the height of Tribes 2's popularity, several of the development team of T2 went on to form GarageGames, and programmed the Torque game engine. They're now working on a FREE Tribes-like FPS which is available for download at the link above. As a huge Tribes 2 fan (T2 being the first game that I invested enough time to get "good" at) I am really excited about this. I tried it out for about 15 minutes just now, and even though the graphics aren't great (maybe a little better than Q3 quality), the gameplay is just as good as T2. It's not a finished game yet, but it's finished enough to give an enjoyable gameplay experience, so check it out!

Can't play. Sociology project will eat me. Can't play. Sociology project will eat me. Can't play. Sociology project will eat me.

i tried to download it, but to no success. i'll try again tomorrow, maybe. not that i'll be able to play much, as it's getting perilously close to finals.

w00t! Another Tribes fan! I played them all from the original Tribes on up to Vengeance. I used to pwn at that game. Before the battlefield series, there was Tribes. It was the first FPS game that I remember ever to have vehicles, deployable defenses, and repairable defenses, vehicles, and generators. I'll definitely give this a look.

SHAZBOT!

I downloaded it, and it seems like fun. I will certainly join you sometime soon, but not until my schedule has cleared up some, the last few weeks of school are depriving me of the time needed to play online.

I remember playing a tribes clone a long while ago in linux that had all the equipment, probably wasted 100 or so hours on it... Unfortunately ive reinstalled and changed distros several times since then, and Gentoo is sooooooo nice, portage pwns nubs, Debian gets honorable mention for apt-get tho :P

I'm going to sleep because I have a final tomorrow at 8:00 AM, but tomorrow evening (and for about 3 months thereafter) I should be able to play pretty much every night.

Xfire doesn't support it yet. :(

Downloading now... slow download.

I too was a Tribes player since the beginning. I still have the original demo disk that came with PC Gamer back in the day with the original Tribes on it. I install that, bought the game the next day. I didn't get into Tribes 2 as much, but that was mostly because of the Unreal/Quake feel of the game music and sounds. I put thousands of hours into the original and Vengeance, and hopefully Legends keeps the same mechanics and balance of the previous incarnations. If so, I'll probably be glad I stopped playing WoW to try new things. :D

I can't sign on until late night (11pm or later MST) but I'll definitely be logging in.

I started playing on the BearTown server. He's trying a lot of custom maps so the download time between games is pretty high right now (about 10-15m) but it's a lot of fun and usually the only server I can find with people on it at night.

I've never played this game, but I had heard of it before when looking to see what FPS games worked in Linux. Looks pretty cool I guess, I probably won't play it much until it's complete (whenever that will be).
