Linux help needed

sounds like the hardware is just a bad choice for linux. You can go into interactive boot on fedora and not initialize the wireless, then you might be able to debug it once the system is up and running.

yeah i guess it's too new for Linux..:) I'm stuck with kubuntu right now as vista is a dog on this machine and i really don't want to spend $100 on two gigs of ram..:(

try something like xbuntu or the e17 distro. e17 is pretty amazing, I would use it if I wasn't addicted to gnome's fuse integration (looks inconspicuously at the line of a half dozen scp drives along his desktop)

here's one vibro. ubuntu or kubuntu takes 4 minutes to come up. the first 3.5 minutes is at black screen where nothing is going on except the occasional hard disk flash. Where do i look to being troubleshooting this? the ubuntu forums have been no help..<G>

hmm, usually you can ssh into a box a few seconds after boot if the networking is configured. Then you can run top to see what is running. Is it before/during the init scripts or is it during X startup?

that's a good question. I wonder is dmesg would have anything..:)

nods. I'm putting vista on it and leaving it. I did however remove vista basic and install Vista Home Premium as Vista basic is a frightful joke. Linux on this machine just isn't going to work. I tend to buy from crucial due to their 100% compatibility guarantee..:)
