Yeah i just recieved mine in the mail. im loving it, except the lame darwine and itunes >.> , haha otherwise, any suggestions on widgits or useful programs?? i got openoffice, gimp, a avi to mov converter so far.

Both my roommates are Macintosh diehards. I'll ping them for suggestions.

In the meantime, the one app I can definitely recommend is Growl. It's the only thing that makes my Linux distro jealous. :)

There's also Quicksilver, which replaces Spotlight and acts as a beefed up search application and program launcher... sort of like Kicker for KDE, but extensible with various plugins so that you can actually control programs through quicksilver (i.e. doing iTunes library searches and then playing the track you want to hear without having to switch to the iTunes window). It's pretty nifty if you have a lot of applications that you access frequently, because it's almost as fast as having global hotkeys for launching the programs, except without the drawback of having several global hotkeys... you only have one.

i have growl, made me download with audium instant msnger. i'll check out quicksilver, sounds like how my firefox is setup on my pc - it controls everything, lol.

There is a nifty new photo editing program out, pixlemator or something like that. Also there are a ton of utilities that come with OSX that make graphics work a bit easier (core image funhouse has all the built in image compositing effects of OSX, nifty for simple stuff or messing around).

If you want FTP write access look at macfusion, it is a port from fusion in linux which allows you to mount usually unsupported volumes as filesystems.

And of course the adobe products are so much better in OSX then windows. The only thing I don't like is that programs take a little longer to load sometimes because they are the dual binary (PPC & i686).

Have fun with your new computer and make sure to keep all your folders organized (my dad started dropping everything to the desktop on his mac and making folders in the root directory like he did in windows), grr.

sweet, thanks for the info, and ya it is kinda an adjustment not always downloading stuff to my desktop and then porting it to specific folders when u dont have much organization setup. its working out well though. ima try installing dreamweaver mx through darwine though because i dont have an osx cd's for adobe

Man this thread delivers!! I installed growl, quicksilver AND pixelmator today and had a TOTAL blast running/configuring them on my macbook pro. Awesome suggestions!

Quicksilver + google calendar plugin FTW!!!!!!!!!

wowow due to using core tech so smoothly I put pixelmator on my wifes aging powerbook and it ran like a champ! CS2/3 eat your heart out (from my trash bin)!
