Much QQ about nothing...

Anyone else out there think the mage's spells need to be a little more useful? I'm not talking damage spells, but things like polymorph, amplify/decrease magic, spellsteal, etc. I've not used any of these except the occasional spellsteal in an instance - and even then it didn't really matter whether I did it or not.

Being an engineer, I'd also like to see some more useful tinkers that dont affect gear enchants.

Discuss!

WOTLK seems to not need nearly as much utility spells as BC did. Back in BC we used to sheep, shackle, etc. on most pulls. But I don't think I've seen a consistent use of any of those in WOTLK. The only exception being shackling the spiders on the first boss in Azjol-nerub. Who knows why they did it.. although they have said that they want classes to be interchangeable.. ie - you don't need a mage/lock/priest/hunter to do an instance.

you use those a ton in pvp though
and engineers have some beast things for pvp...
a ton of things like the wrist rocket are mostly for pvp which is sad if you dont pvp but thats what ive seen htme to be fore

yes...once you start entering the titan area, you need cc...and there are bosses in uld that you use spell steal on

besides..there's really no more fun than stealing a pally's buffs as he *thinks* he's going to 1 shot you

I blame pally tanks, we made CC uncool in BC and Blizzard made all tanks able to handle AOE in wotlk:P

meh...hard to blame them with hunters hitting wrong targets, fan of knives, whirlwind, etc... going on

I've rarely seen CC of any kind used, tanking I've used Hammer of Justice a few times to stun a lose Add or something, like Bill said BC was all about CC, where so far in wotlk CC isn't a "must", everyone just AoE's everything.

I haven't been in Ulduar very much aside from two fails on Flame Leviathan. I was hoping that my utility spells would become more useful - that's one of the things I really like about this game, that not everyone can do everything.

Well, we haven't gotten that far into Ulduar yet, but the trash hasn't required sheeping thus far. CC on some of the trash isn't a bad idea, though, since it does make pulls easier. And yes, the trash isn't something to laugh at in Ulduar. Thus far it hasn't been terrible, but it can cause wipes if people aren't careful enough.
