My Decision

So after reading all of your thoughtful inputs on my ROTC thread, I have finally come to a decision. I will be enlisting in the National Guard very soon and I will hopefully be taking a semester off next year to go to basic training and AIT. This will get my entire school paid for, and also monthly stipends coming out to about $800-1000 for living. Most importantly however, I will be protecting my country and my family and friends, which brings great joy to my heart. I would like to ask you all to pray for me, this isn't going to be an easy road to go down however it will make a much more disciplined person out of me! I will be online still every now and then, but as you all know I have college along with physical training going on throughout the week so most weekends I like to rest and be a bum or go home and spend it with the family. I wanted to share this with you all because you are all my brothers and sisters in Christ, and this guild is very important to me.

Anyway, wish me luck! God bless!!

Though im new to the guild i will be praying for you .... I know first hand that joining the armed services is no easy choice (in the end i wasnt able to follow through) .... but i hold all those who do join the armed services in high regard for putting their lives on the line for our freedoms and what our nation stands for. I hope that God blesses your endeavors and allows you to be a light in the darkness of this world.

I would strongly consider joining the air force. The marines are treated like crap, army isn't much better, the navy has old bases and constant deployments. I've never met someone in the air force who had a complaint about where they were and what they did. Also the air force has the newest housing on most bases, the better stores and constantly push for their service members to get a better education; while most branches push for this, the air force, in my experience, actually gives you time to let that happen. Just my two cents. Either way, my entire family went army, I went navy and serviced with both sailors and marines, and I also went to a joint air force-navy base for a year and was amazed at the air force which is why I'm saying what I say. Even though you're going national guard the army likes to deploy their guard often and since they are pushing for more people in Afgan, it's possible you'll deploy with them. Either way, do what feels right. God bless. - Sent from my phone

Think I'd agree with Brootis. I don't have connection really with the army but I do with the Navy because of my sister's husband. When they visited us and told us about the base...it apparently is pretty run down, not well kept. They are in Japan though :p which is crazy to be deployed there. My good friend that's married to an airforce guy is out living in Arkansas I believe. They're both living there...safe within the US. I would think they all have good programs :) just try and find out some info on the airforce too.

i grew up as an air force kid and they actually were really good to us. Because of my moms cancer they didn't give my dad orders so my mom could stay with her daughters or when she got really bad towards the end the wing commander came and told my dad that he didn't have to worry about coming to work he would be on payed leave because he should be with my mom.

Unfortunately the Air Force is very competitive at my school, and the guarantee of even getting in the program is close to none right now. I have faith though, NG is a good program and yes I might get treated like dirt for the first year or so, I build my way up which is what I want to do =]

I spent 7 years in the US Army. 8 in the AR NG. (As a Cavalry Scout and Combat Medic/Triage NCO.) The branches are no better or worse than any other service. All Depends what your looking for and what you truly feel like putting in to it. Much like your Faith. I went more places and saw or things with the Guard. I have good friend from all the branches.

My only advice is the same that was given to me, as a young Sergeant and as an officer. Your men will live and die by your command. Know what your doing. Most branches are now pushing personnel management, Not true leadership. be a Leader. Do what you know is right.

Good Luck, if you have any questions PM me

What ive heard recently is the Air force is being really peticular about their enlistment expecially with a program (Blue to Green - i think is what they call it) where they are trying to take MOs that can be integrated into army/navy and moving those to those respective branches.

Hey man, I know I am not a part of the guild, and not very good at wishing people best, but I wanted to wish you good luck. I just finished 4 years in the Active Army as a signal specialist with one deployment to Afghanistan. I don't know a lot about the Guard itself, but from a vet to you, good luck and best wishes! I will be praying for ya man, I know the military could use a few good guys these days. :)
