My fellow ladies...

A friend from Fans for Christ (Ishy, another ToJ member and onetime guildee) started a new ministry for Christian female gamer/geeks/fans, TechnoChicks (once called Sword Angels). I know we have a lot of newer female members, so I thought I'd post an open invite.

Almost all of the forums are ladies only. We do have a "General Chat" area where guys are welcome, too. If you're interested, come on by and check us out!

What is a cosplayer?
Wikipedia can explain it better than I can!

Cosplay a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words "costume" and "play", is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.

In Japan, "cosplay" as a hobby is usually an end unto itself. Likeminded people gather to see others' costumes, show off their own elaborate handmade creations, take lots of pictures, and possibly participate in best costume contests
...
Most features of cosplay have spread first to the other parts of Asia, then around the globe, and finally fused with costuming at science fiction conventions in North America and Europe. It is also a common sight at anime conventions. Cosplayers at anime conventions in North America often find themselves on the receiving ends of glomps, a type of high-powered hug.

Cosplay in the United States and Europe differs from Japanese cosplay culture in some ways. Cosplay concerning Star Trek, Star Wars, other science fiction worlds, Renaissance-era characters, and historical re-enactments (e.g. Civil War battles), especially at science fiction conventions, are far more popular in the West than they are in Japan. Alternatively, some costumes that might be seen as in bad taste in the west (such as Nazi uniforms from certain comics or games) may be seen at events in Japan.

The funny thing is that it appears to have started in JAPAN in response to costuming at American scifi conventions; now it has come full circle and is popular in the US!

Cosplayers are usually more dedicated to creating a reproduction of something than simply wearing a costume.

Thanks, Dea.......I had no idea. Cosplay is nothing I would be interested in, but nice to know what it means.

That's cool. I'll go check it out! I sent the link to a friend on another Christian forum where I'm a member. She's a gamer too.
