My PC is screeching?

Its the sound when someone puts their nails down on a chalkboard! :eek:

I turned on my PC like usual, as soon as it shows the loading screen of Windows XP, its starts screeching and wont stop. I look where its coming from, I'm not sure, my Diskette Drive lights is constantly on, its like its jammed or something, but I havent use a Disk in over a year...

I had to use manual shutdown since the screeching was extremely annoying!

I turned on my PC again, it showed the warning of manual shutdown or has not properly been shutdown, like usual if a problem ever occured, press enter on run normal (instead of safe mode), and it works.

Just to be on the safe side, I'm doing a Adware and AVG scan.

Is there a way I can do a system check? To see if every part of my PC's hardware/software is working properly.

What I recently installed myself on hardware:

- 2 GB Ram Memory
- Wireless Internet Adapter

What it recently installed on software:

- Steam Updates
- Adware Updates
- 2 unidentified programs; ANIO service, ANIWZCS2 service

Unidentified meaning I never installed them and I cant erase/delete them!
It says its part of Alpha Networks INC.. I did a google search, and I think you have to see it for yourself...

I looked the manual for my Wireless Internet Adapter, there is nothing that relates to Alpha Networks INC, or anything in my PC.
SO what the heck are the programs used for;ANIO service, ANIWZCS2 service!? I double-click the applications, nothing happens!?

IS Alpha Networks some kind of PC conspiracy!?

I doubt it's a software problem. I'd guess it's a fan or hard drive making the noise.

I'd suggest opening the case and ensuring there's nothing in any of your fans (CPU, chipset, and case fans). If you have any extra case fans installed, disconnect those, boot up, and see if the noise persists. If the noise stops, then test each case fan one by one until you isolate the fan making the noise. Disconnect and remove that fan. Replace it if you think it's necessary to maintain a sufficiently low temperature and better airflow.

If the noise doesn't stop after disconnecting your case fans, shut down, unplug the power on your system, unplug the power connector from your hard drive, plug the power cord back into your PC, and boot back up. If you don't hear the noise after disconnecting your hard drive, there's a good chance your hard drive was making the noise. If that's the case, you need to test your hard drive--because it's probably dying. If you have a second computer, use it to download diagnostic tools from the manufacturer's web site and copy them to floppy. Reconnect your hard drive in your problem machine, place the floppy with the diagnostic tools in the floppy drive, and boot up. Run the diagnostics; they'll either confirm or deny that the hard drive is failing.

If the hard drive is failing, contact the manufacturer's tech support department and tell them the story of your dying drive. They should forward you to the RMA department, who will give you instructions on sending your hard drive in to get it replaced.

Hope this helps. :) I've been in a similar situation and had to replace the drive. I hope it's a simple matter of an unimportant wire straying into the path of a case fan, but I include instructions for worst case scenarios when I can.

I think its just a glitch. Sometimes, things happen when I turn on my PC; my anti-virus is missing, my cd-rom wont work, my games wacked-out, etc. When I turn on my PC the 2nd time, everything is there and working.

I disconnect my Disk Drive and tried the PC w/o a Disk Drive, no screeching noises. I re-connected my Disk Drive and tried the PC w/ a Disk Drive, no screeching noises.

Does this happen when you Hibernate your PC?
