I just wanted to see how fast my cable internet was, could someone tell me, in plain english, what this says:

RATING
110.4
(results detail)
lower = better
worse than the average from all best scores.. currently 96.9 from 25604 samples

worse than the last hour.. currently 88.7 from 54 samples


My rating shows 110.4, about 10th place to the highest, and 42.0ms, whats that, slow or fast?
 
basicly means its a little below average....

could be that alot of people were on at the time you tested.

and is it safe to tweak the net speed?

I had a talk with a classmate between my 180kps speed and his 350kps. Mines slow, wow, thats stupid.
 
you can download at max at about 1.5 mega bytes persecond (if you find a server that good) and if you try to send something the fastest it will go is about.2 Mega bytes persecond.
 
How does this compare to games like Counter-Strike?

I get between 90-130 ping on ToJ #1&2. Between 400-10,000 ping on lag spikes. Im from the west side, im sure your server is from east.

On Counter-strike from the west coast you should get probably what you are getting ( the spikes have been for everyone that i know of including my self).

some things that may increase your PING are
Back ground programs (what all is trying to use bandwidth) also how many times do you have to jump around before you get to the server if there are many then that may cause more lag.
 
even if i get disconnect/timeout/dropped out/kicked/banned from the browsing servers?

i am bored and have nothing to do.... iw as going to go play Zone of the enders II but someone messaged me...

As far as the drops.... is that on the web or certian programs?

sometimes, usually about 30% of the time, drops happen, on steam, ex: I joined ToJ #1, I play for a couple mins, sometimes, all the sudden, my screen goes back to the cs main menu(New Game, Find Servers, Options, Exit), it almost looks like I've been kicked for no apparent reason, but it doesnt say anything. Ok, I try to get back to the server, as soon as its at 95% complete, it brings me back to cs main menu again.

Soo...I've been disconnect a few times, "dropped out" recently, kicked a few times, and ban once from steam's cs servers.
 
ms = 1/1000 of a second, so basically a 100ms ping is actually 1/10 of a second. The lower that round trip time the faster data gets shovled back and forth between you and the server. Since the data packs that you and the server are using to communicate are usually so small, it's ping time (aka. Latency) that is most important, and not bandwidth, the ability of your computer to transfer large ammounts of data really really fast.

So bandwidth = good for downloads
Latency = good for online games

Are you still using that router that's been giving you all the problems? If so you'll probably (for the sake of simplicity) want to put the computer that you use for counter-striking in the demilitarized zone. It helps in some situations, and doesn't help in others (I've had it both ways with two different routers). If you can log into that router, there should be a setting called DMZ, just hit start, run, and type ipconfig and hit enter. Pick the ip out of there (probably 192.168.1.xxx or something like that) and type it into the DMZ box on your router's config page.

No such setting called DMZ, and the ipconfig shows for a millisecond then closes imediatelly. How can I check it now?

Nevermind, I see it on Command Prompt (DOS).
Ah, oh...I only see one ip address, mine. There rest are...numbers and letters. eg:3ffe:831f:4004:1954:0:fbf2....etc

Which is Downloads and Uploads?

Took me about 30 mins to Download steams Day of defeat, 350 or 450mb.

Brood war, download maps takes me between 30 secs to 5 mins.

Updating patches for most games takes me between 3-10 mins.
