New Elementalist Questions

Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
I've decided to start my first elementalist - and I'm looking for some advice about builds. I'm planning to be Fire - right now I'm a mesmer secondary.

I have checked Guild Wiki and Guild Wars for builds. Most of what I'm reading is a couple of years old. Any of you have any build - weapon - armor recommendations - especially some you have tried and found successful or futile?

Searing Flames and Savannah Heat are your best friends running a Fire elementalist. Going E/Me means you can arcane echo the daylights out of those skills (watch out for energy if you echo SF, it'll knock you down extremely fast). As far as armor goes, I prefer to go the glass cannon route for an insane mana pool (I managed to get it up to around 111 at one point) but sacrificed the potential for slightly higher health due to all the attunement runes and radiant insignia. Since I do that, I also go for energy and spell casting time on my weapons/offhand.

I find the Fire Elementalist to be the most rewarding class in GW for me, mostly because I can watch all the pretty yellow numbers when I cast SH twice into a large mob in a PvE zone.

you can do many things with Fire. I pride my self as an Air ele but I really am a Fire one now :(. But Meteor Shower is your Friend it is not an elite but it can do wonders. My fave Fire Build is kinda tough to pull off but so much fun. I like to go Ele/A and Death Charge into a large group that i throw Meteor Shower on and use AoE skills like Starburst,Flame Burst, Inferno, Etc. In a matter of seonds I do about 700 dmg to everything around me and they all die. Draw back is you are basically tanking lol and may die but if you do it right everything dies before they even hit you.

Hmm, I play a fire ele quite often. I have 102 energy and rarely go below 50 energy unless I die or it takes longer than usual to defeat the mob.

I like Savannah heat with an arcane echo as suggested earlier. I would never echo Searing Flames. The recharge on SF is already low enough to make it spammable.

One of the biggest mistakes newbie fire eles make is putting Flare on their bar. Flare is one of the first skills you get and it's totally awesome against those low level mantids and termites!!! However as you progress, you'll earn much better skills and it's time to put Flare back in the closet.

I like Liquid Flame. Good fast punch to an area that kills an enemy which is close to dying.

Glowing Gaze is a nice energy management skill that pairs well with SF.

Searing Heat and Tenai's Heat are 15e AOE skills. They are identical and at least 1 should be on your bar. They are a slightly worse version of Savannah Heat.

Meteor Shower - Hmmm, well Dredd likes it. I don't. It's cast time is 5 seconds and a long recharge. This means youll only get it off once in a fight. If you're lucky. In Pve I've found that my heroes and henchies have the mob mostly dead by the time i'm done casting. In PvP, you'll never get it off. Any decent player will interrupt you first.
On the other hand, it is useful in specialty builds. I use it in many solo farming builds. It can also be used well in pvp if paired with Glyph of Sacrifice and coordinated with your teammates so that they are keeping your victim pinned down in the meteor shower.

Avoid a lot of spells that require you to get close up and personal with a mob. Starburst, Lava Font, Inferno, Bed of Coals fall into this category. Just remember you're a nuker, not a tank!! You're squishy!!! If you run into a mob of Level 20-24 enemies screaming BURN YOU DEVILS BURN, your monk is liable to ragequit on you while he screams some terms that holy men just shouldn't be uttering.

Fire Attunement - Have i mentioned this one yet? Put it on your bar....NOW! Keep it on your bar and anytime you are outside town this skill should always be up and running on you.

That's it for now. Have fun with your nuker. Yeah, pretty little yellow numbers are nice.

That is the kind of help I needed - thanks guys.

I'll try some of these combinations - of course I have to work my way through some terrritory to get to a couple of those skills. I have picked up Fire Attunement - Fireball - Meteor (in the absence of Meteor Shower) - a couple of Glyphs - and Arcane Echo to go along with some of the core skills.

I'm still at a lowly 14 - got to the docks so I can travel - haven't picked up any heros yet but I'm going after Dunkuro and Olias and Jora ASAP.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Remember that glyphs cancel each other you. So you cant use Glyph of Lesser and Glyph of Ele Power together.

Lol Everyone plays different. I am a PvPer and I still use flare it can be very useful :P. But you got some good suggestions from everyone and now you can have the fun of playing around with different builds.

Another question about Energy Storage:

I have been moving along (currently at lvl 19) - I have a few heros - and five of the skills that were recommended above. I've brought my armor up to 60 - but have not runed up yet. I have been putting my attribute points into Fire and Energy Storage - Fire is at 12 (11+1) and Energy Storage at 9 - running 508 health and 77 energy.

Here is the question - on the K (skills) screen the 9 is red and there is a note that says it should be an 11 but it is 9 - the rollover note says, "Your rank in Energy Storage is normally 11 but is currently modified to 9." Why?

I've swapped out weapons and objects - they don't have any affect on the pesky red 9. I haven't had this problem with any character thus far. Is this an Elementalist thing I have heard about? Any suggestions or solutions?

This has to be something unique to either Elementalist or EOTN. All locations in EOTN have my elementalist at 9 Energy Storage with 508 health and 77 energy. When I leave to Kamadan or Kaineng Center it changes to 11 Energy Storage and 488 health and 83 energy. Even Lion's Arch is the 11-488-83.

Any explanations? Please?

Are you lvl 20 yet?

If you aren't then EotN will automatically adjust your stats to match that of a lvl 20 character.

I am not a level 20 - but I didn't think that it would adjust my stats DOWN from 11 to 9.

That's normal. It only happens in EotN areas and only until you are a level 20. Your primary goes to 9 and the attribute linked to your weapon will also go up to 9 or higher. I'm not sure what the correct formula is.

Don't worry about it. As soon as you turn 20 it all goes away.

Thanks - you were correct - as soon as I leveled up to 20 everything leveled out where it was supposed to be.

Thanks

AAARRRRGGGG - I know "Talk Like a Pirate Day" was last month but AAARRRRGGGG. I went into Sacnoth Valley to cap Searing Flame - and a painful expedition it was. I finally killed Borrguus Blisterbark and all he had for me was 100 gold - no Searing Flame. I got more gold from the Grawl.

Is his SF drop random?

Hi Abba San,

You need to buy a Capture Signet from the Skills guy, and then equip it in your skillbar before you set out to slay Borrgus Blisterbark, and then after you slay him, while standing near to him click on the capture signet and then when his skills appear, pick Searing Flames. This is how we 'cap' all the elite skills.

Sorry you need to kill him again...Don't be afraid to ask for assistance and hopefully one of us will be on and can help you :)

SF is a pretty easy cap in NF iirc. It's probably about a 5 minute cap max. Bring Gwen along and its over with. Bring Pain Inverter and its like dropping a balloon on a pin.. he just blows himself up..

I've capped many skills before - I had a cap on my skill bar - when he died there was no corpse - just 100 gold setting there. I don't know what happened - it didn't make any sense - I've never had that happen before. I wasn't on a quest - just going for the skill. Also, I died just before the battle ended and was resurrected. I don't know if either of those was a factor or if it was a bug or not.

The only good thing about going through all the trouble to kill Blisterbark and not getting the skill was all the Vangard reputation points I got in the process - thousands.

Stc95 - what is "iirc"? I'm a little ways into Nightfall - but if it is an easy cap I'll plug my way to the area.

I really appreciate the help from the group - learning a new profession has been a challenge but this has made it much easier. I'm getting a killer build together.
