Hey CGA'ers!

Welcome to the all-new Christian Gamers Alliance website! I'm happy to bring you the result of weeks of work and planning.

One thing you'll immediately notice is our new look, provided by Luka Cvrk. I've also taken this style and adapted it into a vBulletin forums skin, which you can see up and running on our forums. In addition, we have dedicated pages for our TeamSpeak server, IRC channel, and a directory of Christian groups and websites, originally compiled by forum member Cool_Hand_Luke.

We hope you enjoy the new offerings here at CGA!

God bless,

Tom McGuire
CGA Webmaster and Forums Administrator

Nifty, I think I about killed myself when I saw all the light blue against white tho :\

The latest threads and the user area needs a little work tho. Overall it looks good.

I was thoroughly scared when i discovered that my home page changed without anyone using the computer

but it looks better and not as every-day-cost-free-forum as before

Inconsistent font size difficult to read. Java chat locked up Firefox. Color schemes hard to read. Miss the functionality of the old home page

edit: and too much space left for sigs

I noticed some comments in Redeemed which is where I originally asked this, but I would rather this comment be posted where there can be more responses...

is there any chance of going back to the old, easier to read site until some modifications and functionality tests are completed.?

Thanks for being supportive of my efforts... *cries*

Okay, so let's break this down:

Inconsistent font size difficult to read.
Inconsistent with what? The old style?

Is the line spacing different? Font size?

Java chat locked up Firefox.
Works fine for me in IE 7, Firefox 2 and Safari 2. Keep in mind that Java applets are inherently bulky, and it can take a few moments for them to load. This is especially dependent on your system specs.

Color schemes hard to read.
What do you suggest? What colors need tweaked?

Miss the functionality of the old home page
What functionality, in particular?

edit: and too much space left for sigs
Can you elaborate?

is there any chance of going back to the old, easier to read site until some modifications and functionality tests are completed.?
We will not convert the whole site back to the old style, as that would make it inconsistent with the main site. However, I will give users the option to switch back to the default vBulletin theme shortly. (This would make it appear like the old forums to only you; everyone else would see the new style.) Once I make some minor modifications to the old style (namely adding links to the home page, etc.), I will enable and announce it.

Also, you make it sound such that I created the site without putting any thought into the colors. I spent at least a few weeks on it all, and it all got a nice big stamp of approval from Tek. He doesn't happen to like the bluish-green feel to the site, but he thought it was good enough to roll into the forums skin.

Thanks for your comments...

The searchbar doesn't appear the same as the front page and as such looks a bit wacko. Also I would encapsulate the user area (you know username, PMs, etc) in something so it isn't just floating up there.

I like the theme overall. Finally the forums arn't vertically challenged with the avatars taking up 50% of the space :P

The java IRC thingy locks up FF2 for about 5-20 seconds depending on system specs, pretty lagorific, but it is a nice alternative to those who don't have an IRC client (or know how to use one :P)

Perhaps moving it to a second page like we do @ ToJ would be a better idea?

Roger that. Thanks!! =)

I vote we go over to bluish-grey, or a nice bright orange.
I'm also toying with the idea of having two or three different schemes, and then having a quick-picker so you can switch between them. ^^ (Orange was Tek's original idea for a color scheme, btw.)

Thom first let me say, I appreciate the effort. Sorry for being direct, but this is really hard for me to read and the strain on the eyes does not make for tact and diplomacy as much as I would prefer.

Font size -
The font size on the left with our "Stats" is larger than that on the posts, which is in turn larger than what is on the home page. The words are also squished together.

I have a system that can run Vista. I don't but my machine can handle it. I don't think the java applets chat is really a good idea. Plus, aren't there some security vulnerabilities that take advantage of Java applets to infect users?

Color Schemes - Either dark with light lettering or the other way around. The white lettering on the teal is hard to read. The dark letters on the light background for the posts are okay, but mixed with the afore mentioned issues....

Functionality

I liked going to the old home page that had the new posts, the TS information (who's online) announcements etc. Everything was right there. I did not have to click on this link or that link to find what I needed.

Sigs -
Look at my post. I almost violate forum etiquette with the amt of space left for my one line sig.

I would think that people would respect the time and energy that went into updating the site and at least throw in a positive for every complaint, but I can't say I'm surprised.

There may be improvements left to make, but the site is a big step up from the last version.

Thanks -- that's the kind of feedback I was looking for. =) I'll see what I can do.

Nice work all! Looks great! Once the chat feature is up and running, all work productivity will go down the tubes!

Sir Thom responded in another thread, but i'm looking forward to the day when vbulletin has a "Reply to all" button for PM's! Someone register a formal complain with them on my behalf! hehe...

Regarding that: I don't think your sig would violate the etiquette guidelines, as that blank space is there because of the size of the left column. The height of that space is dependent on your post length, not the content of the signature, so no additional violation is in order for this type of case.

Hehe... Nothing worse than putting blood sweat and tears into a project (Though... hopefully there was no blood involved...) and getting only complaints. Such is the life of a programmer. No praise when things are going smooth!

One thing I really like is the "Today's Popular Threads". I'm usually so wrapped up in the Redeemed forums, I don't see all the other stuff going on in CGA. It's a nice way for all of us keep up on the other chapters. (I apologize in advance for all the spam from Redeemed!!!)

YES! That is exactly what we were hoping for from this... to give people a taste of what else is out there, CGA-wise. =) *applause*

The type is slightly harder to read (because of the character spacing), but, it's pretty minor. Still have to test stuff, but, overall I think the change is good. I'm generally in favor of anything that makes you stand out a bit as the old forums looked like other standard forums out there. Nothing wrong with the old forum it was just very... default. Thank you for all the hard work "forum-ulating" everything :). I guess you could say we have perfect "forum" now hehe. Seriously though I know you guys don't get paid so here's a "big" thank you...
THANK YOU.

...The Gerbil can never resist a pun:p.

And yes I was going to make a positive comment and thank them before I read your post Tek.
