[NEWS] Welcome to CGA 2.0!

It's better, but still very hard to read. I am still only good for about 5 minutes.

If I may suggest....before you launch another new version, set up a test section and have as many users as possible with machines test is and check to see what is going on. That way, when it launches, the bugs will be fewer.

Gen
make that a PUBLIC test section ..<G>

But if it was public it would never be finished as we would impose countless fixes and suggestions to the point where he would never be able to release it.

Agreed. It probably would've been better to do it that way and old a fuzzy private beta which users could apply to freely, but I wanted to get it out sooner rather than later due to some scheduling things coming up. But I don't think I did too terribly bad.

uh oh the thread thingy at the top went outside of its boundries.

ohh, so that what this site is.... a public test site.

It is all so clear now.... May I have the link back to the regular forum now LOL <j/K>

I'm going to have to side with VK on this one.

Make any significant change to any web site regularly visited by 100 or more people and at least a few will complain. Most will adapt to the changes.

Ask people what changes they would make to any web site regularly visited by 100 or more people and you'll delay the project by weeks.

The tweaks that SirThom made to the forum skin have greatly improved readability. The specific bug reports VK posted were a big help, too, I'm sure.

But for those who want to switch back to the old forum skin, is there a way to appease them as well?

*nod*

As soon as I can find time between possibly getting a job at a local restaurant, working a paid, NDA'd web project, church, praise team practice, school starting up soon, dropping off our Yukon at the airport for my uncle whose wife was just diagnosed with breast cancer, writing an article for an online publication and the day-to-day stuff, I'll work on it.

That'll probably be tomorrow. *lol*

What you do is simply drop support for the old interface and force everyone to upgrade. I know it sounds lame but in the end it reduces costs(time spent and resources) and eliminates the problem of "well it's not in my version so I don't care". It's not like there is anything missing in this new version, just that people don't like change.

that's already been done with CGA 2.0 VK. Just leave it as is and move on. Those that like it will stay..those that don't like won't stay.

And then there are those who stay but discontinue their financial contributions. Can't forget about those folks, now, can we?

At the time of this posting, I believe we have only one person contributing financially on a regular (monthly) basis. Donations to the Alliance are few and far between; it usually takes an announcement that we're running low on funds before people send in donations. Granted, I usually don't communicate a need for donations until we're running low on funds.

While I (and I believe I speak for SirThom as well) want the CGA Forums to be a blessing to as many people as possible, I recognize the truth of the old saying, "You can't please everyone."

I'm preparing to move tomorrow after living with my wife in the same small apartment for almost three years. SirThom, as indicated by his last post, is staying very busy himself. We both want to do more for the CGA, but very few people are stepping up to help. We've called for volunteers in the past, but few people offered to help. The current staff does a great job at maintaining the various ministries on these forums (Assignment: Writing! included), but so few can only do so much.

dorkelf: None of my comments were aimed at you. I know you were replying to HCS's post. I just wanted to clarify why we don't respond as quickly to forum members' requests as some would like.

For the most part I would be interested in seeing more of what is happening. Rather then random announcements of stuff about to happen or goals appearing out of nowhere.

I wouldn't mind contributing but feel as I am now that there is no want for me to help. If a person drops a bunch of papers and they have an apparent need I will go help them pick them up. But if the person is just walking down the hallway perfectly fine there is little reason to go help them in any way.

Maybe you should add in a "Wanted" tab up top. Throw in detailed information about what positions are empty and what materials could be contributed. Right now the apparent need is so transparent that I am sure most people don't know they exist.

I agree with that principal too. But the way one handles the unpleased is very important, and that is my point. I think its important to avoid saying or implying to those who are upset about something within this ministry, 'well I guess if you're unhappy you might just leave. C'est la vie.'.

I appreciate your clarification. I'm sure that HCS and you Tek are never happy about people deciding to leave this ministry, whether or not they're doing so for a good reason. I just think its better to say, 'I really hope we can stay unified through these changes' rather than 'I guess some people are just going to leave.'

I have to agree with what Vibro says. Without getting into my own financial situation, let me just say that the two giving conditions which I think most people can generally justify beyond their regular tithes and offerings are either a very small amount of money on a regular basis, or a larger amount of money on the basis of direct need. Fundraising has so far been conducted by the latter principal, but I'd recommend encouraging the former. If you stress with people, hey its really ok to give $2 or $3 per month, then I think you might open up a real floodgate of regular donations that will cumulate nicely over time.

It was for me too, especially on the computer-in-the-back with its very non-contrasty monitor. I never really understood how much eye-strain it was until I switched back (thanks to Tom's fix) and immediately felt my eyes relax! :eek:Thanks again Tom for working it out to let us switch back. ;)
