I like the U.S. response to the saber rattelling, we sent 2 nuclear bombers to participate in the current joint South Korea/U.S. exercise. It's not nuking the U.S. so much, their missiles are still a bit primitive for that, but nuking Japan, or Pacific Islands that hold our bases that is the issue to think about. Whether or not the Korean War heats up again is just a question of time, ask any of our military that has served there recently. That would leave one point to consider, would China back the DPRK? We miscalled that issue once, would we do it again? China may decide to sit this one out because they are too busy making money and growing right now. I am more concerned for our service men and women who would be caught at the sharp end when things drop in the pot again, than I am for myself.

Let me try to make sense of why I think it's unlikely that NK will nuke the USA:
I know of some businessmen in South Korea that are working towards a plan to revitalize NK. They have been told by God to get ready because the wall is coming down soon. Now, I know it's God's time, which sometimes runs a lot like Blizzard time, but I think we'll see it in the next two decades.
I also think that if NK dropped a nuke on the USA, the USA and other nations would retaliate in form -- and there would be no NK left to revitalize.
Now, maybe I'm wrong, the UN could just go in and knock out all the power and save the nukes, but there you have it.

As far as China goes - zero chance they back DPRK. They are already to the point where they've told them to knock it off...and the only reason they tolerate them currently is because they do not want to deal with refugees. They recently made news for sending back a few refugees claiming asylum, which was pretty messed up in my opinion. They could've just sent them to SK but don't want to deal with having more refugees. Ultimately, China is a mix of some 1st world but mostly 3rd world country, and can't take care of many of their own people and infrastructure...they just want to lay low and grow past that.
NK flying a plane and dropping a nuke on us is impossible, though I have often wondered how difficult it'd be to smuggle SOMETHING in via Mexico or something.
Ultimately, the most likely scenario for uniting Korea without bloodshed will be one that most people don't like - lots of amnesty and power for the evil people there in some kind of unification deal. I'm talking blanket amnesty for even the worst crimes against humanity. I want justice for these people, but that won't work without retaliation. It's mostly a military state, and if you threaten that military power there will be bloodshed. Only peaceful way out is to transition without threatening what they have, and work towards next generation being better than this one.
