I read on a thread that we could possibly see a faction split where we could choose to join White Mantle or S. Blade similar to Kur. or Lux. If thats the case, I wonder who to choose...

I'm a Shining Blade. I always love the underdog, lets overthrow the Empire, go Rebel Alliance kinda thing ;).

I also had to do some research after I read that thread to reacquaint myself with the histories of the White Mantle/Mursaat and the Shining Blade. And I've found that there is no "bad guys" save the Mursaat manipulating the White Mantle. However there is a "blind side," meaning there is a faction *cough*White Mantle*cough* that continue to hold onto their unseen gods even when there is proof that they aren't gods and that they have been manipulated. Yet, the White Mantle's propaganda resembles a totalitarian society that fascinates me. The Shining Blade is trying to overthrow the White Mantle's rule in Kryta and restore the monarchy in Princess Salma.

I'm currently undecided. I'm leaning towards the White Mantle because I think they are ultimately the good guys, but a bit heavy-handed.

Think about it. The true villian in Prophecies was
the Lich with his Titan army. The Mursaat were keeping the Titans imprisoned so that makes the Mursaat good guys and the white mantle follow the Mursaat. The White Mantle have blinded slain all the chosen over the years because they've been told that one day a "chosen" will release the Titans. In order to prevent that, they kill all chosen before that can happen.

Obviously I don't like that they slay innocents just because a higher power tells them to, but look at 2 similiar stories from the Bible:

1. Herod - He slays all children because he's told a child will rise up and become King. Definitely a villian.

2. Abraham - God tells him to go and slay an innocent child, Isaac. Abraham blindly obeys because God commanded it. Is Abraham a villian? I think not.

The White Mantle also blindly obey the Mursaat when they say to kill the chosen.

Yet there are definitely personalities within the White Mantle that are power hungry and corrupt. They abuse their position within the Mantle to oppress the townspeople and suppress any opposition to their power.

On the other side is The Shining Blade. These folks are freedom fighters that see the supposed evil of the mantle and don't understand the true reasons behind the Mantle's decisions to keep the world safe from Titans. All they see is the evil committed by the Mantle and they seek to overthrow this regime. They are also good guys, but misguided and working for evil. I think if someone (like us well-to-do hero types perhaps) were to explain to their leaders why the mantle and mursaat are doing these things and totally convince them of the truth of it, then a peace could be reached between the 2 factions.

Ugh, I'm starting to sound like Hayda.

Yet as we know, the Flameseeker that fulfills the Flameseeker Prophecies is none other than our neighborhood Lich, not the Chosen (us). While I'm not sure they, the Mursaat are trying to stop the Titans, they could be in a round-a-bout way, but Glint tells us that "the Mursaat will meet their demise at the hands of the Chosen 1." So rather than saving the world from the Titans, I think they are killing the Chosen for self-preservation. However, I can't prove right now that they knew about this part of the prophecy.

Aye, but Abraham didn't kill Isaac. The Mursaat and White Mantle did. And it's clear that the "gods" of the White Mantle (Mursaat) are not gods at all.

While the question of whether the Mursaat or White Mantle are "evil" is still up in the air and based off perception. I'm not trying to make you change your mind or attack you, I'm just in it for the debate ;)

This is fun :)

This reminds me of the "security vs liberty" debate during the Patriot Act's introduction.

I see some trouble with both sides. SB are rebellious, and some obvious assassinate WM officers and soldiers. I wonder, do they ever go farther and attack their homes? By all right I guess the SB are the terrorist of Tyria (closer to the IRA over Al Qaeda). The WM on the other hand are like an over bearing gov't that demands blind obedience to their unseen gods and promises of security.

Still undecided. Going to read up on each a bit more I think.

Sorry it is simple. With their "Obey" schtick the WM remind me too much of Hitler and the Third Reich.

Given how they support the true ruler of Kryta, I'd hardly say they are a terrorist cell, more that they are reclaiming their home from an oppressive regime.

yeah, the IRA said the same things concerning their war against the UK. Either way, after reading a bit on the history of both, the SB seems to have the most pure intentions.

However, being a Char hater its hard for me not to have an appreciation for the WM and the Unseen for fighting them out of Kryta.

The man who led the counter-attack against the Charr realised his gods were monsters and they abducted him

Here is a recap on their respective propaganda campaigns.

War in Kryta!

The time to choose is drawing near!

Hiding in the jungles and among the populace, the Shining Blade rebel movement has grown increasingly bold in their attacks against the White Mantle, the ostensible leaders of Kryta. No doubt the royalist rebels are taking advantage of the relative weakness of the White Mantle after the recent deaths of their entire High Council.

But the White Mantle is not to be underestimated. They have rallied under new leadership – the stern hand of Confessor Isaiah – and their Inquisitors scour the land, hunting for rebels.
