Paladins used to be able to use Avenging Wrath and Divine Shield at the same time. This was a bug, and it will get fixed in the next patch. Avenging Wrath and Divine Shield will then share the same cooldown as it was intended.

After further testing, we've decided to undo the following changes to the Paladin for the next patch as we felt the adjustments were too imposing on the class' ability to tank in dungeons.

-Increased the duration of "Avenging Wrath" by 50% (now lasts 30 sec.) This ability no longer invokes "Forbearance", but shares a cooldown with "Divine Shield".

-Forbearance now reduces damage dealt by the affected player by 15%.

With that being said, we do feel that the Paladin is currently capable of producing too much burst damage and are investigating reasonable ways to make minor reductions for the future.

Too much burst damage from a pally...and the solution is to nerf dps after the initial burst would have occured??
Blizzard makes little sense at times. At least they stopped the nerf for some reason that no one saw coming.

A damage reduction of 15% was going to be applied to Forebearance in the upcoming patch. However, at a sort of last minute decision, the changes were pulled, but remained in the patch notes.

In context with Blessing of Protection, the damage reduction would have been applied to another player, which would not be something anybody wants, really.

Basically, we're testing the patch and making changes. Most of the Paladin changes have been pulled.

The currently active patch note is "The slowing affect from "Avenger's Shield" is now considered a snare, so snare removal and immunity affects will now work on it." and that's it so far.

Now, the devs have been considering finding another path of damage reduction, but are not sure exactly what form it will take.

Q: Is the nerf to burst damage going to be put on this same test realm eventually? Or is it coming in a later patch?

Tseric:
The devs may devise something for patch 2.0.10 (this patch) which might deal with smoothing out some damage potential. They are testing now, so it would be a reasonable time, but there is no definite schedule that I am aware of.

Q: So a 15% damage reduction applied to Forbearance was intended but just to the Paladin who cast it?

Tseric:
Basically, yes. The devs were looking for some temporary damage reduction, but obviously couldn't use this specific method of Forebearance to apply it.
