It's a large patch: 275+ MB, so you may want to kick off the download a while before you decide to play.
 
I found that I like to change any mods, wowecon, that kick off wow to instead use launcher.exe. It adds one more step by having to click play but it will launcher the downloaded once Blizz puts the patch up for distribution. I logged in today and automatically loaded it and was ready to login in minutes.
 
When WoW was in beta, Blizz found that Tuesday had the lowest average online population...so they do it every week when it effects the least number of people.
