Penny for your thoughts

So I was reading on the GW website that you can now buy a purely PvP format GW game. It comes with everything already unlocked. now I understand that these people still can't acquire green items and other stuff like this that a PvE person can get but this really discourages me. Part of the reason that I enjoy PvE is that I know I am unlocking the skills, mods, etc for my PvP account.

All of my friends play WoW and I even tried out the 10 day trial but i didnt want to play something that was going to demand that much of my time. However I have been playing GW a lot lately so I am not sure if that is a valid argument anymore. GW is planning on releasing a new update every 6 months or so and at $50 a pop that is only a little cheaper than paying the $15/mo. for WoW.

I had planned on buying NF right when it comes out, but i am not so sure now. It almost seems as if GW is doing a lot of things lately purely to make money without the consideration of the current players, (i.e. the skill unlock sets and the now PvP version of GW). I am just looking for some input from some other people. lol, I actually want someone to say something that makes me think I should continue playing GW and not start WoW.

Just looking for your thoughts.....

What's the difference between working ingame, unlocking skills by capping or buying them with faction, and working out of game and buying them with earned money? You're still getting the same thing, only by different roads.

EDIT: And besides, you think it's bad here? Do a search on eBay for World of Warcraft...

I've thought about WoW too, from time to time, but the fact remains that keeps me in GW: I don't know anyone in WoW, and I've got plenty of great friends in GW.
Maybe you just need to take some time off, and then come back and rediscover the game. Or, with Nightfall coming out on Friday, this might be a golden opportunity to skip the break and cut straight to the playing. :)

I think they released the PvP Editions for the convinience of people who want to do PvP only. They can just buy the PvP edition and jump right in, no waiting involved. Otherwise, in order to fully enjoy PvP, you must "grind" out all the unlocks in PvE, which is rather time consuming. I play PvE for the fun of PvE, the missions, the quests, the character developement.

Heh the PvP packs are a joke you really dont learn how to pvp just jumping in. No one will want you in a group. At least by unlocking skills you learn how they work. PvP packs are pretty much for people who already PvP and dont wanna work to unlock everything. BTW you can buy the PvP account for your existing account for $30. As well GW has been out for 1 year and about 6 months and we are only at 2 games soon to be 3. They about every 6 months. and as you know you are not required to buy them. Wow you have to buy the. Buy the expansion and pay 15 a month in the long run GW is way cheaper. If you wanna view GW as paying monthly it ends up being Just under $10 a month. If you were a console gamer how many games do you buy a month? I found playing GW cheaper I have bought very few games and I am sure I have saved a lot of money by playing it lol.

Well I agree with you, why the heck would I spend 50 dollars every six months?

And does anyone have any idea about when they'll stop making new chapters? Cuz if they keep this up then some people will end up spending a couple hundred dollars on a silly game...

:D In WoW, you do that in thirteen months...just in monthly fees, not including the cost of the game.

During the last Beta Weekend Event before the original launch of Guild Wars, they added a feature called a "Unlock all Skills" button that you could click to unlock every skill. The idea was to test out those skills as well as give everyone a sneak peak. It was publicized that it was only a BWE feature and would not be in the game. However, once the game came out EVERY public forum erupted in outcry that there was no UAS button. It remains a consistant and tiresome complaint even a year and a half later on those forums. I think this (as a follow up to the unlock packs) is an answer to that. Why not let aNet make a little extra money from those too lazy to earn them through PvE or faction unlock? It doens't make players any better.

As Dredd said, this is mostly for those who already PvP, but don't want to work unlock everything. If they aren't experienced enough and buying these PvP accounts, I hope we face them in HA. It should make an easier win.

I think it is more to help people who are getting into the game at a later phase, instead of buying prophecies, factions and nightfall (a staggering $120) plus having to spend ~1000 hours to get almost every character maxed. A person can buy nightfall and the unlock packs (if and when factions unlock comes out) for considerably less, then they will just have to play to get the core and nightfall skills and they will be set for pvp.
