Yes. They do a temporary unlock on games from time to time. I think last weekend was a CoD:MW2 free weekend. I've never purchased the game, but had access for a few days. Now I don't.

Yes, there was a MW2 free weekend, but they specified that it was just for the weekend. I haven't seen anything on portal saying that you only keep it until May 24. From what steam says, it is free to download until May 24, but I don't think they are taking it away from you after that.
